View Full Version here: : Jupiter SEB Dec 8 in poor seeing

The GFS showed 300mb winds of 80-100 (knots?) and odd clouds were blowing through, adding local flag waving effects. Seeing was really poor, with low contrast and no fine detail in all channels, but at least Jupiter was visible. Would not normally bother in these conditions, but I wanted to see if the SEB outbreak had progressed. It looks to have strengthened and spread on the eastern side near the equator. I guess this makes sense, since apparently the wind on the equator side of the belt is easterly and that on the pole side is westerly - the dark colour change from the central disturbance seems to be extending around the planet in both directions with these wind patterns.
Sorry about the really poor quality - but thanks for looking anyway.

ace - There's more detail in there than you'd expect.
Nice one

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for your comment. Yes, there is detail, but it needs some imagination to enhance it. Anyway, the structure of the SEB is reasonably easy to make out.
Hi Trent. Thanks for your comment. Its better than what I see through my scope as well - image processing can really help in poor seeing.

Quite good detail from poor seeing, maybe lower atmospherics were bad but the upper atmosphere was good. Seeing that is the bulk of the problems are experienced.
Not sure about the colour, have you tried to align the colours in Registax.
Good Jupiter shot Ray

Hi Troy. Thanks for your kind comment - the image is just good enough to see the SEB, so it is a keeper - but it isn't going to win any prizes.

hi Michael. Its fascinating to watch such immense changes as they happen. Be nice if we got some clear sky.

Still a top effort under those conditions Ray and plenty of discernible detail and structure.
Cheers
