I had a new low power flash arrive today for a shoot I'm doing this weekend, and, also because I felt like buying some toys : D
I decided to try it out tonight along with the 70-200mm f/2.8L USM on my little girl. All I can say is :dribble:
Straight out of camera (first one cropped), white balanced in Digital Photo Professional, and output for web.
1920x resolution here (http://users.tpg.com.au/octane2/sbc2.html).

You can't use flash for moon shots you know.....

Portraits under a one week old Moon? Nah, won't work.
Astrophotography is dead until at least the first quarter of next year. Got thousands of dollars worth of gear sitting there depreciating in value. Blergh.

Lovely pics H.
But the mono one just doesn't do it for me.
I need to see the colour of those gorgeous eyes. (kitty's not your's)

Great shots H.
My wife and I are cat people but we lost both our little friends a couple of years back, one was 15 and the 17 years both to cancer very sad but I just love your shots, could look at shots like that all day.
Thanks for showing them.

Pussy or no pussy, the tonal quality of these is superb Humayun. Great control. The 5D Mark II not having its own (inbuilt) flash, and given the 430EX-ish style Speedlite and standard diffuser's propensity to overpower close-quarter subjects - I really like this acquisition of yours. What model did you buy and in comparison to the standard flash what's its output? Is it a remote, ring, side or top-mount? Nice pussy by the way :)

Thanks, everyone! She's a beautiful little girl. Her brother is just as gorgeous, but, with a different personality.
They're 5.5 years old now.
Cheers, Chris. : D
I got this one from Hong Kong. It's a cheapie Yongnuo YN-642. It has no digital output on the rear panel. There's just a rotating dial with no markings on it to indicate flash output power. I found myself firing it yesterday somewhere between 3/4 and full power. It pales in comparison to the Nikon SB-600 that I was also shooting with, and, really just ended up being used as a bit of fill and/or hair light.
It has a faux hot-shoe connection on it -- don't think you can fire it on-camera, it needs to be triggered remotely.
For this shot, I fired it through an umbrella.
I'll post a few samples from yesterday's shoot later on when I get the chance. Straight out of Digital Photo Professional they look awesome. Here's hoping tonight's shoot goes well, too!
