A vision lovelier than a tree.
While there's no stars, there's always a tree you can find to calm the senses

Jennifer, looks like a good choice of targets.
Not only is it a great looking tree, it looks very old too
Nice pic of it too. :)

It's kinda sad that posting something with so much detail loses its impact due to the loss of pixels when it's shrunk to fit.
My sister and dog are in that photo though they're hard to spot! Just showing how big the tree really is.

Crop it a bit, that should help. Nice tree. As long as it is nowhere near my observatory, I have no problem with it.
Could you have told that person under the tree to get out of the way while you took the pic? ;)

Agree with Asimov, I also have a neighbour's tree blocking my south celestial pole......I secretly wish it will die! (I know it is very bad but I can't help it).

Also agree with Asimov. Trees have their place, but not in my FOV.
I have 3 trees on my property and 5 on the neighbours that stuff the western horizon (about 90 deg in azimuth and 60 deg in elevation). The council's tree preservation order says I can't cut them down. (Wonder if I can say the roots are damaging the swimming pools on all 3 properties.)
I could pay someone to get the trees on my northern boundary pruned by about 2-3 metres - they only block to about 20 deg in elevation.
SWMBO keeps looking for a property to buy, and I keep rejecting them because of the number of trees we would not be allowed to clear to get a reasonable horizon.

Nice tree,
Was travelling in the Grampians last week for a few days and we decided to go a different way home when leaving so went down Victoria valley, followed the south western road out and some of the old river red gums we saw were huge to say the least, I couldn't help but stop and take a few shots of them. Just magnificent.
As for trees on my own place, well I have some thirty to forty footers that block all sorts of directions as I hadn't expected to take up star gazing again. My best location for the telescope is unfortunately right in the middle of my driveway. :help:
Might be a few complaints if I pulled out the chainsaw.

Would love to see this shot at either dusk or dawn, long exposure with big depth of field. Say, f/11 or f/16, ISO-100 to ISO-400. Would make for a very interesting field.
Use tripod, too.
