Well as tonight was Friday the 13th I thought it was proberbly the best time to rip a $1600 camera apart to remove the IR filter.
I followed the instructions on this web site
http://astro.ai-software.com/articles/mod_350D/mod_350D.html

I can report that with this excellent website as a reference the job went well
The camera is now minus the IR filter, replaced with a clear glass and now I get nice pink images for my daytime shots
The pink images will change as soon as the X-Nite daytime filter arrives
But the best part is the ability to take better astro shots.

People are going to ask what the hardest part was, it would have to be cutting the replacement glass, over the years I have made many fishtanks and am well versed in the use of a glass cutter but this stuff whilst only 3mm thick was the hardest glass I have ever cut.
I still have a large piece left over so I think a trip to the glass cutters is in order as I have two other friends who will be doing the mod shortly.

The next hardest was keeping the glass clean and glueing it in the frame,
clean and glue just don't fit well together :scared:

cheers

David.

You're a braver man than me, David! I take more terrestrial shots than astro shots with my 350D, so I won't be touching it's innards but I'll be anxious to see how your shots turn out!

Congatulations David

Sounds like I took the easy way and didn't replace the filter at all on my 300D although it would be nice to have an IR blocker for lens shots and the view finder is compeatly out of focus .
I wonder why Hutec or someone dosn't sell precut filters
