Still having fun playing with data, here is yet another way of looking at Orions Sword...:P - it really highlights the fine scale nebulous structure.

Man, if I were to go back to the mid 80's and I had pulled the neg roll of Tri-X out of the developing tank, held it up to the light and seen this through my magnifier... I think I would have passed out :eyepop:

Hi Mike; (nice to meet you !)

That image is absolutely mind-blowing !
The colour ones take me even further beyond that !

Thank you so much for sharing it .. I'm simply lost for words !
:)

Cheers and Regards

Pretty cool Mike. Plenty of nebulosity, though I'm not the negative type. ;)
(Positivity all the way :)) Shame about the bright star reflection though, rather pronounced in negative form. (am I being negative?)

Cheers

how much data you have left Mike - its going to be a long long time before we get anything near the weather you captured this lot of photons. i dont mind the negative view ;)

Glad you liked it Craig, as you may have gathered from the image captions at my web site, this is an image from last summer (not sure if we will even have a summer this year :eyepop:) but the first time I had viewed it in negative. Looking at images in negative reveals things that your eye misses in positive or colour, particularly effective for faint galaxy clusters or faint swarms of globular clusters in Eliptical galaxy halos (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/121346215/original)

Meeh..not a grand "may I present" but rather just something different and perhaps interesting to some

Mate I have reasonably severe imaging withdrawals, the way it looks at the moment the new scope will be here before I can finish my works in progress - started in Aug and Sept :mad2:

Interesting perspective but like Jase I like the positive versions. Still an interesting view.

Yeh and fair enough to mate...but you'd remember developing 2415 et al, wouldn't you?..can you have ever imagined seeing this on your neg back then?

Love how far we have come in this game, geez, imagine another 25yrs?

Digging deep there Mikey :P
Imaging withdrawal symptoms at it's worst :)
Nice negative, and i don't mean this negatively, however i dont really like negatives but don't see that in a negative way :D

Nice and Deep!

For the folks who don't like the 'Negative' view, just copy/paste the image into PhotoShop or PaintShop Pro or some other program and click on Invert or Negative.
Then you can see it in the 'Positive'.

Yeah bud I remember Tech pan. Nice gear but I like you would have had a heart attack if I saw this on a neg. I was always grateful for having stars that looked a roundish. Was never thinking of getting much detail, nothing like today.

Geez, I'm still working on the round stars. LOL

Mike it looks awesomely negative!

Err actually it doesn't quite work like that exactly Ken, what looks good in negative will usually not look good in positive - try it, you will find the image way too bright and over exposed looking... but in neg it rocks

Aaaah Jeanette, niiice of you to drop in on one of my images :hi: :welcome:..I was actually thinking you may be avoiding me

Neglected Mike :P

Cheers for all the negative feedback guys

Always trying something new :P

Oh and by the way, re Kens suggestion, just inverting this negative in PS wont cut it, it will look awefully over exposed. The levels, curves, brightness and contrast that looks good in negative doesn't look good in positive.

Stunning. It's just like seeing detail in H-alpha images, except you see stuff you just don't typically see.

I wonder what other objects apart from this and NGC 2070 work best in this format.

Cheers Shane, I recon it came out ok too ...probably means more to those that remember film too :P

For the easily bored's sake... for gods sake, don't tempt me :eyepop:

Nice one Mike. There is so much in there it is almost a challenge to work out what is what. You love these negatives.

AAGGHH!!

Yeah, ya right Mike

What a ghastly image you have there. Quick, leave it in the Negative

Lovely snippet of the anti-universe you've got there, Mike. Rather than try and flip it into positive, I find it easier and cheaper just to drop acid. (And a hell of a lot more fun.)
WhooOO BOY!

Err ummm?..I didn't touch it ...only made the suggestion that you do it ;)... Doh, I shouldn't have said anything

Very special Mike.

Did you get a chance to see the Imax Hubble 3D movie - where they do a zoom through space from Earth to M42? You should have collaborated on the animation they did ;)

Wonderful image yet again Mike :) You always manage to show us a new perspective of things, excellent work! I like negative images too, they often highlight details that would otherwise go unnoticed.

No didn't see that Rob, sounds very cool, glad the gastly black mess met with your approval :D

Glad you liked it Rolf (got it right this time ), not a lot to it but as mentioned what looks good in negative doesn't look good in positive so it must be converted to negative first and then all the same sort of processes applied in PS...but in reverse :P
