Hi,

I am new to the IceInSpace site after buying a Meade LX90 a few months ago. Last night, I was viewing the full moon from a Sydney suburb and took the attached photo of the moon by holding an iPhone 3gs camera to the eyepice.

It is amazing how well the photo turned given the simplicity of the camera and setup.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark - a great result!
What eyepiece did you image through? 26mm?

It was the 40mm eyepiece. I also used the moon filter which comes which the Meade 4000 eyepice kit.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi there Mark,

Welcome to IIS, I'm relatively new here also but I couldn't help noticing you Site name has Heli on the end and was just wondering if it refered to Helicopters, possibly Radio Controled or full size.

It's just that I fly RC Heli's so this just stood out in the croud thats all.

By the way have you got Star Walk and or Solar Walk for the iphone? Great little apps.

Nico.

It's a wonderful thing isn't it?
I did much the same when the partial lunar eclipse happened - sadly it was cloudy so I got a bit of haze too but they come out well - lx90s are a good bit of glass!

Great effort, well done! I wonder if the internal HDR function of the iPhone 4 will handle the moon even better?

Might have to try it :)

Welcome to IIS!

This has inspired me to try to capture some lunar eclipse shots in the same manner - I have an LX90 and 40mm and a camera. Make a sequence type image. 21st Dec? We will miss total here in Brisbane but the Moon will rise during it - I think?

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback...

Nico - in response to your question on helicopters, I have a TREX 450 remote control helicopter. It is also a great hobby, but unfortunately work doesn't leave me enough free time for all my hobbies so I haven't had a chance to fly recently. The engineering and physics of helicopters is very interesting.

For the iPhone, I use the SykGazer iPhone planetarium app (which has now been renamed SkySafari).

Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,

A good full moon, with simple technical means.

bravo

I think a single shot is enough with the moon, it is very bright and easily shot.
This pic was using an Aldi camera - held onto the lens (26mm) with an elastic band and a piece of ply with a hole drilled in it, it is not at full resolution - it is shrunk to fit on this site.
The end result could be printed on A3 and not be pixellated
