In the garden - macro life

I tried out some more macro using the 1000d and EF-S lens in the garden today. Sunny, with lots of daisies to keep the insect and arachnid life busy. These images could probably do with bias calibration.

I would love to buy an L series lens - probably the 70 - 200 f/2.8L II USM, but at 2.5G...$$$ is it worth marrying up with a camera 1/5 of the cost?

I'm open to suggestions as to the best lenses. An all rounder would be nice, to accommodate AP and Macro - probably being stingy?

A very nice set with some lovely detail. A dedicated 1:1 life size macro lens would get you much closer whereas a 70-200 probably only goes to 1:1/3 life size I think?

Thanks Dennis. I suppose its a matter of macro or close up. These critters are difficult to approach at times, so I guess its really close up photography. In-flight shots are more difficult, where a zoom lens comes into its own, particularly with IS and AF.
