View Full Version here: : IIS is affecting my work - help!

It seems like such a harmless thing having IIS forum open in a window in the background of my work PC ... it was just for lunchtime use OK, now I find each time I move from one task to another I think... might just go have a look at what new posts have come in, won't respond or anything, just a look. Then go ooh this looks interesting... just put in my 10c worth... about $3.50 worth later - bugger what was I really meant to be doing again.

Any other's out there (yes I'm talking to you DP ;) ), maybe there should be an IIS anonomous...

cheers,

yes iam constantly going back and forth. Mike how many times a day do we visit, surely you have a log?

At least at the end of the month we only have to yell over the field to each other for a change! (Lostock, for those going)

hmmmmmm wellll, i have the email option set to instant notification, so as soon as someone posts to a thread i have added to, then the old adsl straight to the pc. So basically, i am on this site 16 hours a day!!!

some may say addicted, but that is not true of course.... i live in denial!!!

I will turn it off saturday night as my lovely wife lisa and i go out to dinner and then pull out the projector, lay back the recliners and watch a dvd together.

I keep it open in the background. I don't have a high pressure job hehe, so I get plenty of opportunity to have a peek at what's going on....:)

I usually keep a few forums open while I am at work, or at least lurk in them. I usually lurk in most forums actually.

Its sad but I cant wait to go back to work next week to try and get some routine back, Ive done nothing these holidays!

I am retired now so IIS only keeps me away from ?. The unofficial policy at CSIRO was it's OK during work time as long as it was not stopping from you from moving to the next task. In my case while waiting for a short x-ray exposure it was OK as I was sitting at a unix workstation anyway. The eleventh commandment still holds 'thou should not get caught'. Not getting the work done falls into this category.

Otherwise I am not addicted, just want to know what is happening in real time.

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm new to IIS, is it really that addictive?

I mean really, how much harm is there in one cigarette, oh I mean, reply on your lunch break?

Mostly too busy at work to post, did at one stage, but having 2 jobs to do in 1 day makes it a little difficult.
Usually have a peek at lunch time & just before I knock off.
My addiction really kicks in when I get home !

good one Ian on the 800, and you can be proud it wasn't on company time :) - I get home and I'm too knackered to post much, more just cruise the threads...

hey I just remembered what this is all about again, I have assemblies of polished metal and glass, there's a sky outside (of sorts), it has shiny things in it, maybe I could look at those instead :nerd:

today I will do real astronomy, I will look at the grey sky in anticipation, I will hope, I will dream of what could be, I will give up and play with kids and then then spend a pleasant hour rearranging and polishing my eyepieces....;)

I know mine does in a bulk way, ie just total GBs downloaded each month by dept for costing purposes. We've only had 2 suggestions to cut down if possible in the last year  . I think that was when Google Earth was all the rage.

Im sure any company could if they wanted to.:wink2:

My work monitors everything, thats why I hacked their own database recorder and took a sample of the data recording files for all PC's at work. I personally caught over half of the IT staff including the manager at ****ography sites and thus I would dare say I have the evidence. As with their own policy, the staff member involved viewing or passing on forbidden material is instantly dissmissed.

They don't know I have the information and it is in a safe place. yes i broke another rule and hacked the server, but it wasthere and their security at the time was hopeless.

As for the web useage we are directly billed by IT for the amount of data used. they charge for upstream and downstream data transfers at almost double the rate. My home service is quicker and more reliable then work! More secure too.
