Noisy Horsey

Thought I would show one of the 45 min 6nm Ha shots with the 180mm lens, its a bit noisy but should look better when I reshoot with the 13nm filter and go longer maybe 2 hours.

Taken with the ST8i ABG camera and 180mm F2.8 ED Nikkor 6nm filter 9 X 5 min exposures.

The Vela shot was taken with the same filter and camera but with a 85mm Nikkor set at F2.8

Nice Zane , boy how 3D does that Vela shot look ! the HH looks good too Zane , but definitely need to Lasso the Flame and deal with It separately . I'd like to see It's Histogram in PS . Anyway thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing more of your shots .

Astroboy how do you fix your ST8i ABG camera to the Nikon 180mm lens. I was wondering as I am in the process of getting a universal T-mount made for the Canon 300mm F2.8 Fluorite (it also has a matched Canon 2X teleconverter). I was hoping to also have people be able to use it with dedicated astro cameras.
What is the distance between the sensor and front of the ST8i ABG camera. Information of your filter setup would also help.
Could you post or PM me a picture with some dimensions.
Nice pics by the way. Imagine the detail you could get at 300mm F2.8.

Your right Louie the flame needs some attention.
Bert the lens is attached to the CFW8 ( which attached to the ST8i )via a Mandel widefield adaptor plate , which replaces the front plate on the CFW8
It can also be attached directly to the camera via an Sbig nikon camera lens adaptor which would require changing filters manualy .
The distance from the front of the camera to the chip is 15mm the CFW8 adds 25mm to this.
The filters i use are a 6nm and 13nm pass Ha ( I also have the O111 and S11 but haven't used them much ) the 6nm needs a longer exposure to get a good signal , but then I would need to manualy guide , the idea of this set up was to have it unattended while I work the 10" or do some observing.
Will take some pics of the rig but its quite staight forward.
