Great review Paul......I ordered one from OPT Friday night..waiting for confirmation.

I too am worried about dust...is the filter the same as tank filter wool or is it worth getting extra filters.

I think they are fairly cheap item for what they are as well....look forward to the cooler.

Excellent review Paul. :) Have you since found dust to be much of a problem or is the filtration sufficient?

Good luck with yours Tony, I'm going to hold out a while yet.

cheers,

Filtration, seems to be very good. I do like to run a can o air over the cooler first then run it for at least a minute before inserting into the scope. Have not seen any real dust problems yet. So ease your minds.

Tony get the extra filters. The filters are thinner than my tank filters so it will pay to get three extras. You could try dacron filters, but its up to you.

Glad you like the review.

Top stuff Paul.......Ive had mine since Xmas and seems to work well :) just have to be careful to keep the tube centered to avoid hitting the baffling as you inserting it into the scope

We can't be the only SCT owners here, thought that this would attract a bit more attention. This thing is great, every SCT owners needs one. Don't be frightened, if used properly your scopes performance will increase two fold.

Looks like another item to add to my "things to buy" list.

Paul, do you think it would be possible to home brew an equivalent?
$200 is an awful lot of money for what appears to be a $20 fan and some plastic tubing.

My thinking exactly Geoff, an old PC fan, some PVC pipe and using a cartridge filter from a respirator to give the best possible filtration. I already have some bits in mind....

Yes but it is high quality plastic...lol

My order has been confirmed....I will let you know if I think it's worth the money....even at $200 I dont see it being a problem in this hobby...just look at a Barlow with a single piece of glass in it....ouch.

Geoff, anything is possible. You could home brew this unit, quite easily. Just as Phil suggested. My only reservation is that the pro version has some degree of certainty regarding dust not entering your scope. However, to the adventurous this could be a good little project. There is at least one step by step construction tut on CN for this very item.

For the rest of the lazy, this is for you. Besides like Tony said, this is cheap for our hobby.

Lester Welcome to the site, especially another SA person. Not many of us here and am happy you chose to post first in this thread. Do you have an SCT? If so you might like to post a shot of your gear in the equipment thread. Once again welcome.
