Ngc 55

Hi all,

Here is actually first light for my vixen fl102. I didnt like this shot as much as the ngc253, but what the heck...

Subs 10 minutes, around 30 of.

Vixen fl102 with an imaging train longer than your arm (except mike).
EQ6 Guided with AO8.
St4000 colour cam.

Criticisms and comments welcomed.

I can't get over the accuracy of the tracking and its an EQ6. They must be nice mounts.

Great detail but I can't see that greeny tinge being correct. Perhaps a bit more work on balancing the colour channels histogram and remove a slight green bias? Light pollution (you may not have any though) hits the green channel the hardest.

The tracking is compensated by the adaptive optics. I did not see what ccd autopilot chose for guide correction exposures, it is usually less than half a second, although I cannot say for sure, was asleep when all this data was captured. This is the first data set that I have successfully got with setting a target and walking away. All functions are automated, adaptive optics, focusing, guide star selection, plate solving, rotator, pointing, darks, flats etc.

Even without adaptive optics the ccdap guiding algorithm works better than any other guiding program I have used. You must be sick of hearing me bang on about adaptive optics.:P

With my last refractor I did not have too much trouble getting round stars at 795mm, maybe losing 1 in 10 subs, without adaptive optics with the eq6.

I did a DIY hypertune on the mount and it does track well. I personally think they are the best value mounts around.

The green tinge... I really hacked hard on the green and has been mentioned by others as well, I obviously did not hit it hard enough. I think it maybe some part moon and light pollution, I do live a block from the cbd in bathurst. Time for a play in ps....

Nice work Brett and yes did notice the green but that is more than compensated for with a great image ;)

Real Men dont use adaptive optics LOL (mind you though if i could use it i would ;) )

Tough target Brett. Nothing like a challenge. Processing looks strong. Data perhaps let you down a little.
