please tell me that someone out there knows how to solve this problem!

I bought a new QHY5, downloaded the drivers from www.qhyccd.com (http://www.qhyccd.com) - the one called qhy5drv.exe or something like that.

I run the .exe file and everything seems to go according to plan, but when I start up PHD - it gives the No Camera error.

I am trying to install on a new netbook I got on the weekend - its an N550 Atom processor running 32 bit windows 7 starter

I had real troubles installing the QHY5 on my previous laptop, and here I am again....!
Thanks,
Adam

Might want to chat with Theo [gama]. There is a uninstaller for all QHY drivers. I have an old one from Tom Libs that I kept. QHY5 drivers come in two. From memory I think you have the base driver first (I/O) then the camera driver. It's been a while since I have tinkered with those.

You have downloaded only the BASE drivers.

You now also need the Ascom driver. http://www.qhyccd.com/ASTROSOFTBE/NEW/QHY5ASCOMSetup.exe
Your application also needs to be Ascom compliant.
Make sure you have Ascom platform installed on your PC.

All new drivers were made to be Ascom compatible.

Looks like all things made for Astronomy is going Ascom !.

If your application doesnt have Ascom support, you will need to load the older version drivers.

Theo.

I hope not Theo :(
My QHY doesn't work with the ascom driver.
Only with the normal QHY5 driver.
Running win7 and also tried on a winxp machine.
I only got it to work once with the ascom driver and after that never again :(

I have both QHY8 & 5 running as ASCOM in Maxim and other apps on WINXP pro. You have to make sure you have the correct base drivers. Mix'n'match and it won't work. Also everytime you plug it in a different port don't let windows do its thing. Point explicitly to the file each time.

thanks for everyone's help - a special thanks to theo who helped me via PM. I have sorted this out now.

The steps I needed to take were:

1. download and install QHY5 drivers from qhyccd.com (http://qhyccd.com/download.html) (Windows 32/64 bit QHY5Drv.exe) - use the plain QHY5 drivers - not the QHY5V or QHY5T
2. Download and install ASCOM (http://www.ascom-standards.org/) platform
3. Download and install QHY5 ASCOM driver from qhyccd.com
(http://qhyccd.com/download.html)
connect camera, start PHD, click camera icon bottom left, select ASCOM Camera (at the bottom of the list), then QHY5 in the ASCOM properties box that comes up.

At first it appears that the camera is still not working as the LED indicator is only very faintly lit - and with the other driver, this was a bad sign. However, start capturing in PHD, and the LED will light up brightly and blink in time with your chosen exposure duration. Happy days.

Hope this helps somebody.
Adam

Best of all now, is that you have Ascom installed, and near everything coming out now uses Ascom, so no need to worry about other drivers now.

I have all the latest QHY5 drivers and the latest ascom and the QHY5 just refuses to work in ascom.

Does it appear in MAXIM as 'CMOS QHY5 CAMERA' when you load Ascom and click on advanced? Ascom platform is 5.5 now.

Yep and then when connecting to the camera it will say no camera found.
Ascom 5.5 is installed.

Do you select Ascom as the camera in Maxim, or select QHY-5 in the Maxim camera menu ?.

I select ascom as the camera and then in ascom settings i choose Qhy5 camera.
The QHY9 works perfect as an ascom camera in maxim so ascom is installed correctly.
Looks like i just have to keep using the non ascom driver for the QHY5.
At least that works.
