well i nearly fell over backwards last night - i managed to image for the first real time in 3 months. managed to get 17 x 10 min shots of the area of the flame and horsehead. Stacked in DSS and processed in pixinsight. its ordinary but i am happy to have captured the photons. 127ED canon40D with cls filter, on g11 - UNBELIEVEABLE - the rms was .25 all night (for me thats good normally is higher) - just a pity the moon and light pollution was around

Fine effort indeed Houghy (it is a wonder you still knew how to do it,) :P if your last post title had anything to do with it ;) ;)
Seriously it is a fine image mate even with the Moon hanging around.

Yep, excellent focus and tracking. Its great to take advantage of good seeing. Filter pulls out the nebulosity well

Houghy not bad needs a bit of lifting IMO as focus appears soft maybe try a smart sharpen and a touch more curves, also there appears to be some banding in the bottom part of the image

Nice one David :). I kind of like the way the image has been processed where i don't get the feeling that its been sharpened.

Nice image David. This is one tough sucker at the best of times. I think your location is in Newcastle and if so that is pretty darn good. The light pollution and moon light alone would kill a lot of the available light from entering your sensor.
There is some fine detail present around the head. Maybe get some more subs and try to brighten the image a little.
Well done.
Well done Davo, very nice result, especially given the conditions.
Sharp as a Tak. :poke:
You should grab some darks during your imaging run mate. :P

Nice result David. Not the easiest of targets which you have done well. Alnitak can be a big problem which you seem to have controlled very nicely.
Well done.

Cool HH but I what I'd really like to know is with all the stuff you've put for sale recently on the classified, how did you get all this gear past SWMBO in the first place. I'm all ears. I want to learn and I need a mentor :P

Very nice Houghy. As far as banding goes, doesn't that just mean the image has been pushed too hard and its showing the pattern noise of the sensor or is it some other thing?
Greg.

This is a fabulous image Dave, especially considering where it was taken from. It has a lovely darkish sinister look to it like it is really hovering in the dark night sky - nice job

well i did some darks and redid the image from scratch - so in effect its a complete SID.......
I like it but i don't:shrug:, silly statement but this time around I did a few things differently and i am not sure about the result:question:

Dave
for a DSLR shot, this is super work and I actually prefer your first edition. The Flame Nebula is quite striking.
cheers

Dave,
There is some amazing detail there in the horsie himself. Well done.
I'd suggest that your third rendition is over-saturated. I actually would like to see a blend of the luminance/brightness detail from your first shot, with the shadow detail in your second rendition. There is a heap of detail still to be brought out in your image (I had a very quick play in Photoshop, I'm that starved of photons).
Grab some more data when you can!
