hi guys. im just wondering could i put a 12" Newt on a Celestron CGE pro mount? I really like this mount because of the easy star alignment feature it has. I mostly want to use it for observing but later on i would like to do some Planetary Imaging.

It would have no trouble navigating the weight.
1) With a 12" sail on top, you will want to pick to weather carefully, the slightest wind makes it uncomfortable.
2) You will need a step ladder and be a contortionist to look into an eyepiece. Newts on GEMs dont put the viewer first.

Yes, the eyepiece on a newt can get into such impossible positions on an EQ mount, you won't be able to look through it at times. An SCT is much easier.

A motorised dob would probably be a better bet for what you want. Visually, your eyepiece will always be in a more comfortable position. For planetary photographic work, you would be generallly using a high framerate video camera, not a long shutter speed CCD, so field rotation is not going to be an issue.
