Goto Dobs

Anyone know if you can just buy the bases with the controller ?

I have an 8" Dob, and was wondering if I could put my OTA onto the Goto base unit

I will have a guess and say it's possible but not worth doing. After looking at the tracking dobs the left bearing that rocks to allow altitude movement would need to be replaced as well. There is a new vixen type rail that slots into the alt motor to allow the motor to engage the tube. This would have to be replaced on the OTA and as they come attached they are likely going to be very hard to track down. Then you need to find a dealer happy to sell a base. Hope i've helped and this makes sense.

Equatorial platforms are the go for getting a dob to track, lots of designs and plans on the net, plus a few commercial units.
No changes to your existing setup, just a platform for it to sit on.
Cloudy Nights has had lots of threads on EQ platforms, for example ...

My next project will probably be a platform for my 12" dob.

I have already made a EQ platform as well and has been the best investment to creating stable visual and AP image. I am modifying mine further to get better stability. No photos yet.

I still operate Push-to which is minimal fuss. I may consider got to when I consider higher res and sized AP for planets
