View Full Version here: : Shoddy M33 from Cambroon

Sat night new moon at Ron's (Cambroon) allowed me to collect limited frames of M33 through intermittent cloud and fog. Collecting 5 min subs, I only managed to get 10:10:5:10 mins of LRGB. The weather didn't seem to care that I'd been dreaming of 3-4 hrs of LRGB along with a bit of Ha if time allowed...

After spending some hours trying to salvage a half decent pic there are many aspects of colour and presentation I feel don't surpass the original hack process (quick Maxim stack without any image cal/correction at all!), so I've shown both here.

At least I managed to shoot something to break the imaging drought though :D

1. Pixinsight/photoshop calibrated
2. Original Maxim/photoshop quick effort

Number One is my pic Rob. It's a gorgeous galaxy that's for sure.
It was great catching up again. Hope to see you again soon.

Thanks Jeanette. Was sure good to get some fresh air and catch up with yourself and the rest of the Cambroonites. Halfway through the night I was getting a bit dis-heartened at how few frames there would be, but its always a thrill when you process it up later.

I want MORE clear, dark weather. NOW!!

They're a bit small to evaluate properly but they look pretty good Rob. How high up is M33 from there?

Looks good to me Rob, hope you get more clear skies soon. All the best.

Thanks Marc. I'd hoped to sprinkle a bit more magic dust on the "real" processing, but I guess I was lucky to pull anything together with only 1 or 2 shots per filter. I just feel like I lost some of the nice yellow/golden core somewhere in the calibration and processing. No surprise I suppose - objects are always easier to process the more data you have.

Busted Mike - easier to hide the average tracking and remaining noise at that size of course....;)
At Ron's it transits at almost exactly 30 degrees. Ron has a wonderful northern horizon. From anywhere in Bris northern light pollution makes it very difficult to get to this one - and trees and house at home make it near to impossible (although I had thought about setting up out front near the streetlight with my Ha filter to see if I could get anything at alll :P

Nice size for my current rig though. I just love this time of year with M31 and 33 sitting under the "bottom" of the great square of Pegasus. If only the weather would play ball though. There's really only a few months you can get at these two from here.

Thanks for looking Lester :)
May the moisture steer clear of you too
