NGC253 GSO RC10 and Atik 11002M

This is the image I managed on the first night at snake valley astro camp. The image is 5 X 10 minute subs of each colour.
This image was captured after midnight and the sun coming up stuffed any plans of capturing more subs.

I think it could do with more exposure but with shorter subs to allow me to capture some star colour. I have noticed all the brighter stars are over saturated to blazes while using 10 min subs.

Nice image Doug, but I reckon it looks a little overcooked to me. There looks like lots of overly sharpened edges everywhere on the galaxy. I think it could do with some luminence data and then any brighten you have used can be handled by that.

I think there is also too much magenta or red in the image also.

Just my observations only.

This mode of posting Jpegs in Forums really sucks because I saw Dougs images on his lappy at camp and the originals are absolutely fantastic!

They actually look 700 times better than they appear here. Pity.

That 'over-sharpened', 'over-processed' look is from Jpeg compression artifacts.

Thanks Patrick,, You obviously heard me swearing in the tent. I suppose everyone heard me.
I could not get PHD to play ball and every attempt at guiding ended up a failure.
On closer inspection after maybe 20 attempts to calibrate my guiding I found I hadn't plugged the lead from the QGuider int the guide port on the mount.
Teach me to go look earlier rather than get grumpy and keep trying.

Nice sharp data but simply not enough exposure time. I have this happen to me all the time where I try to boost an image beyond the level of the data.

You got some nice data there. Its just not enough. Hard with the wet weather pattern we've had for nearly a year now.

Interesting comment about the stars oversaturated. I haven't always checked that as I tend to use 10 minute subs as standard. But you are right sometimes images with lots of bright stars can be hard to extract colour in them if they are overexposed.
