Hi all,
I have had a great year playing with my stuff and taking quite a few solar and lunar images this year. I estimate by years end I would have spent over 2% of the year behind my scope(s). I thoroughly enjoy my Lunt 60 Hydrogen Alpha scope (arrived in March) and it has been my main outlet for my hobby.
I was wondering what my favorite / best images of the year were so I reviewed most of my stuff and came up with my top 10 - a touch absorbed :D - I have also attached a montage of the images listed below - I probably will not get too much more in for 2010.
Chronological order.
14 January – AR 1040 - Probably the best detailed image taken with my 40mm scope. I upgraded to a Lunt60 not long after this – Solarmax 40, DMK31 and Registax5

24 January – Deslanders Region – My most detailed wide field view of this heavily cratered region of the Moon. I remember the images on the screen being ever so crisp - Classic LX90, DMK31 and Registax5

5 April – AR 1059 with Prominence – My best blended / Prominence image, very wispy – Lunt60 Ha, DMK31, Registax5 and PSP

11 April – I initially described this Quiescent Filament as ugly but there is a lot of detail in the smudge - Lunt60 Ha, DMK31 and Registax5

18 May – A fantastic prominence display that looks like a forest. I do like the arching structures - Lunt60 Ha, DMK31, Registax5 and PSP

18-20 May – Filament – This was a three day project showing the changes as a large filament rounded the limb – I really like the 3D appearance of the filament when the images are inverted – Lunt60 Ha, DMK31 and Registax5

1 August 2010 – Twin Filaments – These were two long and wide Filaments with a lot going on, I had never seen anything like these before – Lunt60 Ha, DMK31 and Registax5

17 October – Mega Filament – This one was a massive gas cloud held in place by magnetism and I only imaged 2/3 of it! The active region associated with the Filament AR 1112 returned after 10 days as it rotated around the back of the Sun. Once again the inverted image makes the Filament leap up – Lunt60 Ha, DMK31 and Registax5
