Hi Guys,

I am currently doing my research for my first telescope. As most of the info suggests an 8" Dob I have been looking at these. My question relates to the GS-680. Most people are talking up the Skywatcher SW-680 and there is very little discussion on the GS-680 as sold by Andrews. It is $50 cheaper that the SW-680 and comes with a number of additional bonuses like extra eye pieces and a right angle finder scope.
Is there a reason why people have not been discussing this particular scope very much?

Cheers!

Maybe because everyone either has one or has had one? It's pretty much the default telescope. Also known as the BT-202.

Cheers,
Jason.

Could people with first hand experience of the GS-680 have a look at this other thread? Down the bottom!

i have a 8' GSO newt, & have had skywatcher 12" in the past..honestly i dont see much differwence at the ep - collimation is the important thing..there are always going to be 1 or 2 bad scopes of a type out of a big bunch..when you references the other thread the following applies
gso 8" f6 1200 focal loength
magnification 25mm = 1200/25 = 48x 9mm = 133x, 6mm =200x
fov of each eyepiece (plossl) is uaually ~50 deg
so fov at eyepiece is 48/5- = almost 1 deg view, 50/133 = `2/5 of 1 deg , 50/200 = 1/4 of a dgree

As per that ocular image I posted Saturn or Jupiter, through the 8", will be only 1-2mm across when viewed? But depending on light pollution you might see the moons as well?
