While I am relativly new to processing I had a play with Brightness,Contrast,Shadows and Highlights with some slight adjustments to noise and sharpness very simple processing but I think it has made an improvement.:D

Was wondering whether I could either duplicate the shot, or use combo of shots taken and stack them? I'm on a mac and have downloaded ImageJ64 (Medical imaging software which can stack apparently) and Lynkeos which is dedicated astro software, however are struggling with the processes on each. Any help would be great

What are you shooting with? camera? webcam?
You definitely have to stack frames to eliminate turbulences, noise and improve the level of detail.
I'm not sure how it works for the moon, but the software Registax is a real treat for planets. You might want to give this a try! The best is to have as many frames as you can of course!

If you get Parallells for mac you can install a copy of Windows that will run on one of your desktop spaces and you can run Virtual Dub for splitting AVI's into bitmaps to be stacked with Registax both programs are free. I have used MAC's at tafe but as yet I am still slumming it with Windows:rofl:. But with Parallels you can install windows and have it running in a window or as I said above on one of your desktop spaces. That would be how I would go or there are some dedicated MAC users on IIS that may have some software that you can use direct on MAC. What version of MAC are you running:confused2:

I would be wondering how you captured this shot, was is Afocal or Prime Focus capture? Did you you use the 5D or webcam.

The 5D is better for full moon capture although webcam is also great when taking multiple images and creating a mosaic.

In both cases Prime Focus is the better option.

The shot was taken with the DSLR and I did take multiple shots on the evening. I think as mentioned above that registax is not mac compatible. Apparently ImageJ and Lynkeos are capable of stacking but I'm not having much luck with them at the moment. More research and advice needed perhaps.

I'm running 10.6.4 which is pretty much the latest I believe. If I cant work out the software I've got may have to bite the bullet and split the system to get Windows. Damn I hope not!:(

Hi Malcom,

I took this this with the 5D (Prime focus) with a 2x barlow. This is my first serious bit of kit, and I just about blew the budget on the 5D alone. I have waited to get a reasonable scope 2nd hand and I have a fairly cheap viewing mount at the moment. Aspiring to get motorised and guided in the future. In the meantime the moon is prime target, and some f2 wide shots from camera only. Viewing a fair bit as well but will get sucked into the black hole of astro work. Many inspiring pictures on here!

have you checked out Parallels it runs Windows in a virtual machine like environment might be your best option :thumbsup:

OK seems you have the right config, wondering now what resolution do you have the 5D set to small, large medium or RAW? It looks like you are imaging on small.

If you are using auto settings you cant image RAW, you will need to set the camera to one of the manual settings.

When you say small do you mean jpeg setting rather than RAW? That particular shot was at 21 mega pixel jpeg.
