As well as Ron's monthly get together up this neck of the woods, last night there was a small imaging night at my place, about 5 km (crow flies) from Ron's. Tony has already posted his great first efforts here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?p=653716#post653716) some of the others of us managed to catch a few photons as well.
I spent most of the night trying to remember what I was supposed to do with a 20D and 135mm lens. I'm sure somewhere someone was having a good laugh at my expense. :bashcomp::fight:
There was quite a bit of cloud dodging last night so all that was managed was 12/5min shots of The LMC (portrait). Still being low to the southeast Brisvegas has to make is presence felt with a horrible yellow gradient. I haven't put a lot into it. It was nice to be out imaging with a group again
Edit: uploaded a full size crop. :D a very nice lens

I think we caught enough to keep us happy for a short while Rob. I should be thinking about a summer target by now and the the LMC looks like a promising target. I've been chipping away at a few closeups using the ED80 and 72 WO and my SX-h9 in Ha. Its a nice spot in the sky to work.
Unfortunately this uploaded image looses a lot compared to the uncompressed tiff. The resolution on this lens really amazes me at times. Under dark clear skies you could really push this lens.

Oh I was having fun in there Terry. I'd forgotten what its like to have to check an image on a 50mm screen bent over looking over your shoulder without having glasses one. Some of the subs for this were a bit dodgy from the cloud but something is better than nothing.

Here's one I collected a couple of weeks ago. 3 hours (12X15min) using SXVF-H9 + Ha and ED80 (original) over 2 nights. I had hoped to have around 5 hours for it, but sometimes you miss a few. :)
I've been poking around the the LMC when I've had the chance lately, using WO72 and ED80. Plenty of interesting material in there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm looking forward to another night with better conditions. Atm I'm taking what I'm getting and good seeing and sucker holes are few and far between most nights. I'm sure I saw Canopus disappear and reappear about 30 arcsec from is normal position the other night. Seeing has been absolutely atrocious with the amount of moisture in the air.
Mike, the final shot was 12@5min ISO800, f/3.2. Initial calibration, alignment, stacking and conversion to Tiff done in IP3 with a Median combine. Due to the strong LP gradient from Brisbane early in the night, I haven't tried to do a lot with this one. Basic curves, levels, colour balance and colour bias (modded 20D), and a couple of Carboni's and a Gradient Xterminator run is about all I've done. I'm looking forward to some 'less challenging" data :computer::bashcomp:
In about a month or so's time it will be high enough early enough that I'll be able to get it from about and hour and a half before meridian and continue for 5 or 6 hours or so. Weather and seeing permitting.
