hi there guys, i'm just wondering if red celophane over my laptop moniter would work well for my vision. Quite often stellarium freezes and i have to restart. when it shuts down, the moniter kills my night vision. Has anyone done this before?

Better than nothing :D
There are materials used in the lighting industry that are more robust than cellophane.
Or see your local signwriter and get a piece of red perspex and either 1) stick it on with bluetac or 2) get them to bend it so that it hooks over the top of your screen.

Rather than red cellophane, which is going to stuff up the colours, I would use "50% neutral density filter" which you can get from stage/photography lighting places.
I got some years ago, but I can't remember exactly where. $30 will get you enough to cover several monitors.
It effectively knocks out 50% of the light, but it won't stuff up the colours on the screen.

there's also PERSPEX™ CS Black 962 Infra-Red Transmitting Grade PERSPEX™ which whilst appearing black to visible light gives excellent transmission in the near IR region (850nm).

I've got red gel from a theatrical lighting place. Stiffer than cellophane so more durable, heat resistant (designed for hot studio lights). I also have a program on my MacBook called RedScreen that does the trick :)
