The Spider in Ha GSO RC10 and Atik11002

NGC2070 Tarantula Nebula captured in Ha.

10 X 10 minute exposures using GSO RC10 and Atik 11002 M camera with Baader 7nm Ha filter.
I had hoped to add some OIII to the mix tonight but again the clouds have rolled in and any imaging will be impossible. I hopefully will capture some before I go to Snake Valley.

Super shot Doug! Love this in Ha. So much details in there. Might give it a go tonight as the moon is in Orion now looking the other way. :P Top work with the new scope. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Your 10 inch RC is working nicely. Such a good buy these scopes. There was so much negative stuff when they were first coming out. The naysayers have well and truly been proven wrong.

So what are you going to do when they bring out the planned 12 inch and then the 16 inch? You've got yourself an upgrade path.

Thanks Marc, Its a nice target for NB work but guiding can be a bit trying at FL 2.0M so close to the pole. I am enjoying this scope and it's focal length, I just wish the field flattener would turn up from Germany so I can get some adapters made and get it all working properly.



I am hopeful that this will end up something quite reasonable. My intention is to blend it as Ha OIII OIII as a synthetic RGB.



Hi Greg and thanks for the kind comments. I did contemplate the larger size RC's from GSO but decided the wait and also the weight would be a problem for me at the moment. A new mount is on the horizon but I doubt I can swing She who must be obeyed to come at a PME like yours. Maybe a Titan is a chance which will allow this and the FSQ to be mounted together. I think this is the best I can hope for.

Weather is still my biggest hindrence but we all suffer from this.


After looking at Mikes inverted Helix I was suitably impressed so thought I would invert this and see what I had. Inverting the image allowed me to stretch it quite a lot more and the end result was quite stunning. When reinverted it looks bloody awful.

Good capture Doug, you seem to be finding holes in the weather, I can't remember...have you got an observatory?

The negative looks good too, it is a useful approach to showcase the fainter stuff, I think it will be more appealing to those who remember film astrophotography, if I had seen such image desity in a negative of mine 25 years ago I would have :question:...not needed Viagra :thumbsup:

That really is something in Ha, lovely detail and sharp as, even with blurry eyes after a 12 hour shift. The purchase of that not so little RC is certainly hitting the proverbial nail....

Thanks Shane, The detail I can manage with this camera just astounds me at times, I suppose the 10" of appature might have something to do with it. The invert mode scared me when I tried it after seeing Mikes Helix.

That's a nice Tarantula Doug but could be even better I think. I don't know if you have photoshop but shadow highlight brings out a lot more of the faint nebulosity.

Nice Ha image Doug. Maybe just a little burnt out in the center but you can get the shorter subs later.

I think I would prefer to see a tighter crop too. I really like this object and getting good tight data on it is really fascinating.

Thanks Steve, I did look at it with shadows and highlights but decided to leave it here until I can get some OIII and see how the blend turns out first.



Thanks Paul, Yes it is just sitting on the edge of burn out just as I am but really this is just a quick work up to see what I had before going for and adding some OIII to the mix. I will be a little more critical when I blend them, if the weather ever co-operates and I get some more data.
This is a full frame with the 11002 and hasn't been cropped at all YET. It probably will be when it's finished.
