Mewlon Collimation

I am thinking of adding Hotech 2" Advanced CT Laser Collimator w/Fine Adjustment to the other gear I have ordered from OPT. Just wondering if there are any other brand/style of laser style collimators that would be better to use to collimate a Mewlon 250. Most of the stuff I have come across is only suited to collimating Newtonian scopes.

Thanks Rick for the suggestion. I have one of these but I want to try laser collimating to see if it is more accurate compared to the straight optical collimator.

Did the rear cell Chris, the three or four screws, then dismantled the focuser movement parts, and all back together. That part was easy enough, it is the front part that scares me, LOL.

Hi Hans,
let me chip in.
For a start I don't have a Mewlon, but I have a DK Cass. from AO.
The optical difference is only that my primary is f4 not f3.
IMHO forget laser. The Mewlon secondary has a central mark for the TAK coll. scope. No reflection back to square the secondary.
I think if you collimate the secondary with a helper, using the TAK scope, then put the primary as close as you can, then just do the rest at zenith on a star. But use only the primary for collimation and mag. around 800x to see the Airy disk and diff. rings. Put the star image in the corner where is "more" concentric, then "pull" it back with the appropriate coll. screw.
It will work.

The Mewlon 250 does not have a dot on the secondary mirror - not unless someone put one there post production. (From Tak America)

The best collimation result I have had is with an artificial star and Metaguide - using a video camera (DMK21) - it can be done during daylight hours which makes things a lot easier. :thumbsup:
