i have not been completely honest,
true, yours have been awesome, but it had more to do with that i had spent an entire night from venus to jupiter and sirius and a double star and i was very happy with the night per say, but when it came to processing saturn and jupiter, they were a real mess..
i had also planned that evening to get uranus and neptune, but..........
i have not got around to finishing it off and now wont as i have deleted my old saturn and jupiters when i rebuild my computer.
here is half the work done. I have posted the rigel double before.
and yes ving, yours are the bestet, although i have never seen them!!!

Cheers for that mate! Perhaps it's just me but I can't see any shame in posting 'mediocre' shots. It's the fact that you got out there & had a go at all that counts!:)
It's human competitive nature/pride blah-blah/ to only post the best though, I know. But if I was going to wait until I got better than Bird.....You would never have even heard of 'Asimov' lol! let alone seen any of his pictures (crummy or otherwize)
So thanks again....They look cool to me!
Yes Ving, yours are the bestest!! :prey2: (I've been to your site/page) :P
I'm gonna knock up a "asidorks worst shots ever!" 'cos I can....:scared:
here ya go dave, its a vingo classic....
the ghost of jupiter nebula....

it can be really frustrating at times, ie my months long fight to get the colour of saturn right, but now that it is there, i am happy. next stop is waiting for seeing conditions to nail the cassini division.
i start work on the cooling system in next few days, then refine collimation once i know mirror is right temp and then see where the camera and telescope can take me.
throw in an extension tube and we test the limits.
i spose you need targets/goals and once you reach those targets, you feel so satisfied!
i reckon week i see asi post, i think that asimovs toucam is the best valued investment he has ever made........apart from the engagement ring of course for the lovely micki!!!!

Frustrating at times!?....It's darn frustrating to me 99.9% of the time! Even when I get a 'good one' I automatically see Birds photo's in my minds eye & say to myself "don't post it! that is total crap Asi!!
Being in this forum has taught me a different way of thinking. Thanks all.
I agree with plenty said here. Sure it's nice to see those images of the quality Bird and Rumples and Co produce. They're the ones showing what can be done if you want to put all that time and effort in and you want to aim for those lofty heights.
But don't you reckon there's also just something great about an image that someone's taken which is all their own, which they took the time to do the best they can?:)
You gotta love that.
And it's very cool how people's final results are kind of unique and distinctive to not only their equipment set-up, but to the very way they go about capturing and processing, and producing what reaches this forum. Our images are a little bit of us, put out there to share with our IIS space mates.
That's gotta be beyond a grading system?
Very cool.
