I have been accused quite a lot recently that i have far too much stuff, and it kind of got me thinking ( to justify my existance) that a few gadgets always comes in handy when:

• you never know when something may break you need a spare at short notice
• you need to operate all of your 6 cameras you have a major event going on and need to use all of your 5 mounts
• you have to take 100000000million gig of data to get one photo that decent - always on the cheapest most ignored setup
• You have no fear - except if the wife actually knew how much was spent in a fiscal year
• You have a few friends over for a imaging run
• You have no friends your imaginary friends require their own setup and your caught by your wife talking to open space near your scopes
• you obviously have not attended a scope envy class
• If roses are red in violets are blue then there is a filter that can fix that for you
• You have to have a gadget to fix or correct the other gadget you are using
• I have a gadget on my new phone to show me other gadgets - a level, google stars and a calculator compass and GPS (in 10 languages)
• Did you know there are at least 9 decent places to source your common astro gadgets......
• You know that i now have twin monitors in the doghouse....but the gadget is the stand holding them ;)

now i ask you - does your gadget do it for you?

Nothing surprising in that list, David.:violin:

Except I would add that you always need at least one more gadget to confirm the first gadget's result - eg. several collimation tools! :juggle:

IMO, you can never have too much stuff.

I like gadgets so much my Home theatre setup is housed in "Gadget Central"
I even have gadgets I have never used...

I am finding that we are told that gadgets will do just about everything for us and I am currently weaning my self off those that I can avoid, they stifle lateral thinking, limit our hand to eye seat of the pants type stuff and consume our time. I am dreading having to update my telephone, my latest sports-car has DSC and TSCC both of which I am able to switch off but in the not to distant future that will not be the case and drivers will not experience oversteer or loss of traction until the electronics fail, and as for GPS, what ever happened to the romance of maps and the ability to be able to plan trips, who hasn't almost run into the rear of the car in front, (the 'TURN LEFT IN 20 METRES' factor, and all in a foreign accent). I will stop now, but the list goes on.
KISS. Greg.

Its a fine line between a warm fuzzy feeling and a feeling of shame when someone needs said gadget from 5 years ago and still having it just over there, in the cupboard, of thing I still need, just in case......

Ahh yes – well on that sometimes it does get or rather become a problem when you have bought stuff only to shelve it due to long bouts of inaction due to weather or other means, then forgetting you have it and then buying another one – only to do the same thing again. Some of my gear accumulated like that. I fixed that problem by buying another mount and scope………you never know when you might need it ;) I bought an st 80, and carefully stored it – then bought another one 8 months later to use as a guide scope off icetrades. Got a few too many filters like that as well. And a couple of cameras…
