Being an avid Sherlock Holmes/Conan Doyle reader since birth, I was keen to see the new Ch.9 series with the British actor Benedict Cumberbatch playing the central role. The series is set in modern-day London, and Holmes is rather clued-in on the technology of the day. Not a bad premise already.

After watching the first episode I'm reasonably impressed with the style of the presentation, and in particular with Cumberbatch's performance. It's authoritative and forceful, akin in many respects to Hugh Laurie's portrayal of "House". It's witty and well written.

Already my favourite passage:

Tonight's episode got "show of the week" from the SMH.

It struck me as a bit Sherlock Holmes meets Dr Who and Torchwood.

I thought this was to be an ongoing series but tonight they advertised that next Sunday's episode will be the final.

The lead actor couldn't possibly be called anything other than Benedict Cumberbatch. He is the epitome of what a Cumberbatch should look like.
I really enjoyed it.
A stylish and witty show. Its well above the average UK "dour-looks-and-shifty-chavs" UK cop show.
I hope they make more

Yes
I watched it and it is great but I can't understand all the hype about a new series being called and then anouncing the next episode is the final. Seems a bit odd.

We'll have to wait until next year when three more shows have been commissioned by the BBC.

Been enjoying the shows so far. A bit disappointing that next week will be the last though.

Yeah i enjoyed that one as well.
When i saw the previews i wasn't sure that i would take to it, i thought it might be a bit cheesey, but the eps so far have been good. I'll be on the look out for it when it returns next year.

I remember it distinctly Duc - t'was August 1962 and the Cuban Missile Crisis was in full swing. My mother remebers that the first thing I asked for was the Sydney Morning Herald. After catching up on current affairs during the morning (between feeds) I'd read my first Arthur Conan Doyle novel by mid afternoon. Another kid in the adjacent bed born that day was still crying and sniffing and generally carrying on like a baby. Unbelievable. I mean to say, "grow up already"!

Cool... It's continuing in 2011. Not a bad episode tonight, and Moriarty is going to be interesting next year...

For those who missed it last time, it's on again tonight.... 8:30 on 9 as a precursor to the new series early in 2012. Can't wait!

Myself and the Sabel both really enjoyed this small series when they showed it again on UK TV not that long ago, but I thought that with Martin Freeman being cast in "The Hobbit" they may not have made any more until he was free again in a couple of years time. That said, I'm extremely gald to hear they are releasing another series next year :)

The 3 episodes recently seen on commercial stations are repeats from the ABC, which were originally shown in 2010. However, a new series is coming in 2012, and that is why they have repeated them, just to get you interested. Although I am not, this SH isn't as interesting as the Robert Downey Junior version :D

I can't wait for the new series! I thought they did fairly well with the modern twist. I liked how you saw the world through his eyes with notes flashing across the screen as he analysed the situation. Unfortunately that aspect seemed to fade out by ep 3.
