No Sidonio image but was taken last night with the moon and my neighbour's lights giving me the gripes as well as terrible gradients.
29x5min QSI583wsg with 10"SCT at f6.3.
Going to try again tonight to image at f10 ie 2500mm to get a bit more detail in the galaxy. Have a coloured image that I can put with this so eventually when I get my processing mastered I hope to put it all together.
Just gratefull that the wind and clouds have gone elsewhere so that I could realign to the pole, recollimate and do some imaging.

That is a super cool looking Galaxy, nice stars and some pretty good detail in the core there, I'd be happy with that shot, nice work.

Very Nice Allan. Look forward to seeing some more when your neighbours are out.

Good capture,
I know what you mean about the gradients I've got much the same problem

No...cause it hasn't been reprocessed and reposted 10 times yet :P
It looks pretty dam good actually...at that tiny size anyway  can you post a bigger version?
Good to hear the weather let you get out mate.

That's nice and sharp.
There are techniques to get rid of the gradients. Its nice when they aren't there in the first place but if they are you can achieve remarkable results with some careful gradient processing. Gradient Xterminator is one of the key tools.

Always a cool looking galaxy, and you seem to have captured some good detail at the core, too!

Off to a great start, will come up nicely with the color

Nice work Allan.
I've lost count of how may times I've imaged this Galaxy and I've never been able to get detail like you have.
Well done :)
This is the best I have ever been able to get it after years of trying:

Very nice Allan. If you like barred spirals with character, which 1365 has in spades, try 2442 when it up. they don't call it "The Meat Hook" for nothing.

Nice work Allan. I am looking forward to seeing the colour image completed. Great detail; but there is a gradient about 2/3rds fo the way out from the galaxy. It might disappear in the final colour composition though.

Thanks Shane - its one of my favourites.
Maybe I should buy them some movie tickets or bust a light or two
Tried quite a few but Pixinsight appears to be the best.
Thanks for the nice comments-Ill see what I can do when I get the colour added
Must try that gradient xterminator again in earnest
Some you want to keep imaging time and time again. Love its spiral arms but its a bugger to get the really faint part of the arms. I really need longer exposure but the weathers against it ATM.
Thanks Alchemy
Thanks Alan - not as good as some of yours.
I think its the equipment rather than me. Im seriously thinking of a new scope just for imaging.
Paul - Ive been thinking of this to image as well. Very interesting galaxy with great detail.
Thanks for your PM info Paul. Gradients - Im plagued by them but thats what you get for living in a city. Your shots really stand out now that you have your dark site.

Lovely work Allan! Good to see you're getting out there.

Excellent result Allan - so your using pixinsight now?
allan gould

I managed to download a copy of the free PixInsight LE before they took it off their site and thats what I have been using.
I find that the dynamic background extraction works extremely well with the horrendous gradients that I had from 3 separate light sources when I imaged. Not perfect but certainly a lot better than I had been able to correct using other means.

Thanks JJJ for the comments. Hows that 8"RC going for you?

Finally managed to get to the PC and process some colour frames that I had of NGC1365 and add these to the Luminance frame above.
Not really sattisfied with this as the definition of the colour is not as good as I wished. Ill have to redo this with the QSI colour filters for a better shot.

you should try the new version of PI - the trial works for 45days but you will end up buying it. the new DBE leaves the old one for dead

Looks good Al! It's a great galaxy to image huh?

You are a real provocateur, David (but I agree with you). Have to see if I can slip it onto the other card as a Xmas present to myself.

Thanks for that Mike - but not up to your standard yet. Love the detail that the 8300 chips can extract and I have to really spend more time on each object and also do proper colour aquisition with the QSI. But its all a learning curve for me ATM.
Have to have a go at the "meat hook" galaxy when the weather improves like Paul suggested.

Thanks for that Martin but when I see the shots that you and others here are able to put together with excellent processing it makes you reluctant to post sometimes.
Again Id like to thank you for the tips in narrow band processing that you gave me for M20, but Im like an undisciplined kid in a candy store. Too many nice objects with Ha, colour or NB to try so I rush around and not do anything properly.
I need discipline!!!!!!!!!!!

Discipline you say? Then make your way to AIC in San Jose for this weekend!
My hour-long talk has a very disciplined theme to it, and I have been writing it for weeks - 80 slides long!
Dont be reluctant at all. This is AMATEUR astrophotography, its okay!
99.9% of us are not scientists right, this is why we dwell in IIS, Australian Amateur Astronomy.
nice image Allan
cheers
