Hi all,

Not sure if this has been posted but the Annual Orionid Meteor shower peaks this week, with favoured mornings between the 17th and 19th as these are not affected by moonlight as much. On the showers maximum on the 21/22 the moon will dramatically reduce the amount of meteors seen. The Radiant rises in the east around midnight.

Other upcoming meteors are the Leonids on the 17th and 18th of November and the Geminids on December 14.

Good luck with your viewing. ;)

Thanks for that Andrew. :)
Damn Moon interferes with the best night, alas.
Might try tomorrow for the Orionids and Comet Hartley. :D

Wow, so this is what I must have seen on Monday night!! I did an obs report in this forum and commented that I saw a very large meteor the size of Jupiter and It looked like it came from the Taurus area (it came from behind me overhead) heading south. If its going to produce more goodies like the one I saw, I think I'd like to camp outside the house for the duration in the freezing cold - could be worth it. :D

Thanks for that Andrew  - I'd been furiously trying to find where the current meteor showers are active at the moment.

Good one Suzy!!!
I was out this am with the comet, but was also scanning the sky for meteors but saw none.

Liz, I actually saw a couple of others as well but only out of the corner of my eye. All these were around 11pm.

I went out Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning, saw 35 meteors on Tuesday, only about 7 Orionids, and 15 this morning, of which only 3 Orionids. The moon severely limited dark sky time this morning. Must make up a dew zapper for my camera lens as I only got off 115 photo's before the lens dewed up, same on both nights, except Tuesday I took over 400 photo's and only 100 of them had stars on it :D

Here is the video of it dewing up :(
