Hi,
Recently my mate and I went to Hawaii to a teacher conference and part of that was to visit the Gemini North Observatory and other scopes on top of MAuna Kea.
I was determined to at least take one astrophoto here. After being told to that it would be unlikely that my t ring adapter and 400d would attach to the back of the Gemini scope I decided also to get rid of my ToUcam from my luggage.
I took this during a night visit to an erupting volcano by resting my Canon 400d on a wall at the observation point. Quality is about zero in terms of images but it is my only astrophoto from Hawaii and I like it.

Now that's definitely a great momento of the visit Mark. I don't think you'll find any other volcano/astro shots on IIS. I wonder if you could bring out a tad more foreground by using PS shadow functions at all? Bert and the HDR experts would probably know how to do it all, but too hard for me. Didn't Gendler or one of the other american astrophotography whizzes cut their teeth on volcano shots? (or maybe its the other way around - they've since gone that way).
Great shot!

great shot you lucky dog, you have raw fiels i take it - you could do a fake HDR by processing the raw three different ways with exposure them combining. Maybe H can tell you how to do that?
Nice one !
I'd love to see something like this.

Thank you all. It was a special moment but there were so many on this trip. I was very lucky to attend. Adam and I have worn Hawaiian shirts back at school basically every day since we got back. I think the moment I walked into my 12 physics class on Wednesday and one of my students played the theme song to Hawaii 5 O on his iphone and half of them did some form of hula dance was another highlight.
