I’ve been very busy lately working on my BackyardEOS project and I haven’t done much imaging or processing. I rented a cottage last weekend about 2 hours out of town and oh boy was I ever happy I decided to tear down the NEQ6 off the concrete pier and bring it along with the EON 120. The skies where clear both nights and I could see the horizon all around – I had a blast.
I took close to 10 hours of M33 with the CLS clip filter and about 4 hours of IC434. I did not get the chance to process IC434, but here is my first rendition of M33.
Critical comments are more than welcome, I still struggle when it comes to stretching in PS, but I’m getting better, I think

Hi Guy....All this from a DSLR :eyepop: WOW!
Did you use the BackyardEOS Dither function?
Well done indeed.
It just blows my mind when people succeed in capturing Ha regions in galaxies. To think of all those nebula in another galaxy.
Top work!

Did I use my own monster to Dither... you bet I did! Speaking of BackyardEOS, I have had great initial testing with the 40D, 50D, T2i, 1000D. The XSi and the T1i is currently in testing - A release is eminent :)
Yes, all this from a moded Canon 40D DSLR.

Anyone willing to take on a challenge. You are more than welcome to download the raw stack and process it. All I ask is that you post your result and your processing steps. I'd like to learn from them :)

Have fun tearing it down

Here you go. Had a go at it. DDP, Saturation and color balance in CCDStack. I used PS CS5. Noiseware for noise reduction. Levels, Curves, Sharpening and further color balance and saturation all done in PS. I've put a higher-res here (http://www.astropic.net/guy/M33-V002b_f.jpg). [2.3MB]. Very cool data to work with. Sure others can do much better process though

Very nice indeed, I like your re-process better than my original. You've managed to really pull out the HA and you've kept the overall color balance to a more realistic look, not blue'ish like mine.
Awesome!

:eyepop: Oops... Did that two days ago on my laptop and just saw it on a calibrated screen on my desktop now. Looks like the reds (and noise) are really heavy. I've made a mental note never to process on a that laptop again. Sorry for butchering the colors on your lovely data! :P ;)

That is an awesome example of what you can do with modest equipment - I can't believe that's a humble DSLR! I love your processing too. I guess I'm just a fan of the cooler colors... :)
Neat idea to put up your raw data by the way. I wish more people did it for all of us to learn from. I may toy around with it a bit and see what I can come up with.
Keep up the excellent work on BackyardEOS!

Please do, my processing skills are mediocre at best, I need to practice a lot more and hints from others is where the learning stage starts :)
Thanks, I made BackyardEOS my life lately, I don't think my wife knows who I am anymore, hidden in my man cave growing a beard :) I should be releasing it early November.

Hahahaha
You wouldn't believe in how much of the same situation I am now (including the out-of-control beard). I just committed myself to StarTools full-time, in order to bring my 10+ tools to the big three platforms with a GUI.
I already know from experience that becoming an independent software publisher/vendor is a very risky thing to do and financially only makes sense if you have a unique product and the goodwill of a large enough user base (and an understanding partner ;) ).
But if you believe you got something that sets you apart from all the other stuff that's out there, then you owe it to yourself to try!
