Hi there, I'm still lurking around

The big family Christmas present was 4 tickets to the second Sydney concert. The kids (8 & 11) have listened to U2 all their lives and this is their first big stadium concert. Anyone interested in U2 should get the live DVD from the Chicago leg of their current tour (JMHO). Great to watch/listen.

i can't believe melbourne would organise some sort of little athletics carnival at the same time and the availablility of accomodation is ZERO!!!

the number of parents taking kids is unbelievable, and so they should, these guys and the rolling stones must be the biggest acts you can get bar none!!!

Well i got 2 tickets to Brissy cause i wanted to see them, but my friend is a HUGE fan!. She flew to Paris in July to see them! We tried to get sydney tickets but couldnt. as bris got released afterwards i got two ticks as her bro got her some ticks. When second concert went on sale I miracloursly got through and got 4 second show syd tickets. I sold my bris tickets to a work mate (for the cost! not like most other ppl out there! :( )
and my friend is sooooooooooooo HUGELY happy now! lol Cant wait to see them! should be GOOD!

Yep not happy but when an act/singer like Delta Godrem can charge a 100 bucks for a ticket here the economics for a dynamic act like U2 to come over nowadays is just to much ......shame the 89 Love comes to town U2 perth concert was one of the band members favorites

I've seen U2 three times in Adelaide. Once around 1983 at the godawful Apollo Stadium; the show was terrific but the tin shed acoustics were awful. Second time was the best; the 89 Love Comes to Town at Memorial Drive. This was a truly awe inspiring show when the band were at their creative peak. I then went to the Zoomerang show at Football Park (since changed names?) which was a very poor show. The band had been touring for a couple of years following Achtung Baby and they were tired and simply going through the motions methinks. I haven't bought much U2 product since and was very disappointed with the album with "Leave Behind" in the title.

I have Sigur Ros tickets for April at the Enmore Sydney. They are a band who are much more interesting than U2 these days, who have descended into parody. Didn't Bono say he was sick of Bono? I can understand this sentiment; not because I hate the guy but because the U2 thing has become a bit tired.

However, I'm sure if you catch them on a good night they'd still put on a very good show.

hehe, so librarian64 you went to the infamous zoomerang adders show at footy park (aami stadium these days - such a stirring name) that was the swirly wind show i was referring too - legendary!
I wasnt a big fan of U2 outside of their top 10 standout single tracks - like 'still havnt found' 'sunday ****** sunday'? ect till I was in some cover acts that tried to cover their songs much later on - and noticed how hard singers found to emulate bono's keys and singing. i realised whaat a special voice he has right then - he makes it sound so easy to sing in those registers and actually fools the ear into thinking that you could sing it that way yourself - he is just idling along on say 'still havent found' and makes it sound like he is singing it lower down the register - amazing! i think it is because of the complete lack of falsetto used - he makes high notes sound lower
I think tho without that amazing voice (and personality - but they go hand in hand) the rest of the band and most of the actual songs would be nothing special - just average stuff

free advice to aspiring wannabees- after 20 plus years in around bands music - i have come to the conclusion most often all that is needed for a band/artist to succeed is that the/their singer be fortunate enough to be borne with a voice (muscle configuration in voicebox) that allows you to sing comfortably in higher range than most people can (this generally applies to guys too) thus fooling the listener into thinking they are hearing something out of the ordinary - making it standout
of course there is a lot of other factors involved, innate timing, inflection, uniuqness of timbre and voice, natural pitch/ear - but these are secondary to that first requirement and can be learned by rote
their are many exeptions of course to the high register rule - Tom Waits (my fav vocalist/writer/performer these days - wish he would tour - fat chance :P) tex perkins, nick cave - were sheer force of personality/talent/writing win over the high register factor
of course a strong connection to your soul and left brain is essential too

Tis disappointing Tony,Im sure there's a heap of disgruntled fans like us ...... :mad2: and I missed John Fogerty when he came to Perth a couple of months ago too.....
Kern good example of what you said about Bonos voice is displayed in the Unforgettable Fire doco where you see behind the scenes and the way he goes about his singing {Elvis Presely and America good example} . I think Edges guitar work has always been unique , well the eighties stuff anyway , not much of a fan of Achtung baby/Zooropa/POP they all lost that uplifting and energetic feel for me

yes maybe i was being a bit harsh on the guys in the band, they were cutting edge once for sure, and they seem a nice enough group of ppl - there must be chemistry i guess
i saw the John fogey- erty too recently, one , out of many highlights, was the elderly group of original fans immediatly behind, we werent that close either -us near the back complaining about the volume, cracked usup :) ooohh its toooo LOUD
but it felt like just like watching a real CCR concert :-))) - man he was that band

i like the early stuff, but joshua tree i really like, the last two i know i like.

it is funny, zooropa and pop or whatever i thought were great disappointments, but i tell you, if they get played on the radio, i stop and listen.

they are a great band and even there worst is soooo much better than most!
