Craters sketch 14-10-10

Hi everyone:hi:,

its been a very long time since I've posted an obs report and yesterday night I had lots of high cloud and then later it completely clouded up.

Any way i decided to take out the scope to test out my newly acquired 6mm and 9mm Tmb planetary type II eps.They are realy nice eps.

The craters I decided to sketch are Theophilus and Cyrillus.They an interesting pair of overlapping craters.Theophilus had many centered peak and terraced wall.Cyrillus had 2 central peaks with terraced walls and a small crater to the left.

I used an 80a blue filter to bring down the brightness of the moon it worked great.I used the 9mm tmb with my 2x barlow giving me a power of 200x.

I also had a look at Jupiter in which i observed a shadow transit of Io.

Clouds came racing in and i ended up packing up.

Nice work, mate.

The moon presents so much detail that it can be hard deciding where to stop a sketch as the surrounding detail actually forms part of the striking nature of any one or group of craters.

I'm still waiting to get to use my brand new, shiny 9mm TMB Planetary, :( , and it doesn't look good for this weekend either, :sadeyes:.

One suggestion, if I may, when sketching the moon, you well know that its black shadows are really, really black. I read you use a 2B pencil, great! that's what I use too. For the really black areas, look at
using a 6B. Art stores & some newsagents also have a pencil called "EE", which, unlike graphite pencils, has no sheen to it at all and is really black- particularly good for lunar sketches.
