Crux to Carina wide field

After the Moon set captured a few wide fields, here is one of Crux to Carina.
Details. 5DH 6X120sec ISO 1000 85mm @ F2.8 Hutech LPR filter, RAW to 16bit Tiff, stacked with Registar, adjusted in Photoshop, GradientXterminator to minimise vignetting.

FOV is 24X16 degrees.

A bit of curvature on the edge of the field and some focus loss there too but I love it for what it is , a widefield shot!

The only lens I have tried so far that shows little or no aberrations with full frame is the Canon 300mm F2.8L. That is why they cost $5k+. The 85mm F1.8 is considered to be a very good lens but that fails at the corners to axial and paraxial aberrations (seagulls). The lack of chromatic aberration makes up for it.

The 50mm F 1.8 although a good lens does even worse.

But the consolation is I can now go ahead and try to make very large mosaics
using the 300mm lens for medium detailed images and the 85mm lens to provide images as a template so no distortion creeps in. Just imagine this same image at the image detail of the 300mm lens.

I am extremely impressed with the performance of the 5DH. This image was captured with a lot of light pollution present. I am now itching to try some much darker skies.

About $5K Aus. depending on exchange rate + 10% GST and $50 handling by Customs. Not much change out of $6K Aus. maybe enough to by a Hutech daylight filter so terrestial shots come out properly colour balanced.

I had three choices

1. Get Hutech to modify the 20D approx $700 US with all the hassles of losing warranty and shipping.
2. Buy a 20Da $3200K Aus available locally with Canon warranty.
3. Go for broke (broke being the operative word) and get the new modded 5D from Hutech purely on the available evidence that the noise is less than half than that of a 20D, and pixel size being bigger should have more sensitivity. Hutech also give a one year guarantee.

The fourth possible option was to modify the 20D myself and probably end up ruining a perfectly good camera.

I think I made the only logical choice. The fact that the 5DH performs beyond any expectations makes it even a better choice.
