View Full Version here: : M27 Dumbbell
Hi just a quick M27 I captured between the clouds last week, I was surprised at the amount of detail that can be captured with 5 minute subs at F4.5. Taken with 18" Newt. with QHY9, guided off axis with Loadstar . Total expoure time red green and Ha 30 mins. blue 40 mins. I am still trying to get calibration frames to work so I ended up not using any.
Clear skies I wish Ken.

Great image Ken. Love the details you have captured. How is the 18" Newt mounted?

Yeh that looks pretty good Ken, there is even a hint of the very faint outer areas.
Nice job

A great image Ken. That's the best M27 I have seen taken in Australia.
A bit of blue extinction occurring in the background which makes it look a bit brown? Perhaps up the blue in the background area only as red is too biased.
Greg.
Wow, beautiful image Ken.

Ken,
That's a fabulous image. A beautiful glowing orb in space. Love it.
Oh, to have such aperture on a solid mount!

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback:hi:
This is the first image since I replaced my wooden tube with a aluminium truss tube and replaced the secondary mirror with a larger version.
Peter, the tube is mounted on a home made equatorial fork and driven by a dob driver system.
Thanks for the kind words Greg, the QHY9 is not a strong performer in the blue, the red can get a bit overwhelming in the background but I will try and tweak the blue a bit.
clear skies

Nice work Ken, loads of detail in this image. Looks like the new secondary on the 18" newt is working well.
Michael
Thanks Michael I paid a bit extra for a 4" 30th wave secondary, hopefully it helps with image quality if the seeing is good.
Clear skies Ken.

Nice image Ken. The detail is very nice and I echo the comment about it being the best I have seen taken from Australia.
Thanks Paul for the positive feedback, I feel bad now that I put so little imaging time into this as I know there is a lot more faint detail in the background. I guess it will be redone next year.
Clear skies Ken
