Noted. Been a while since I was up there.

I am a definite tentative. :D

(After spending Joanne's birthday at IISAC while she was working... I am not too sure of anything for a while. I am already working off the penance.
So far, mowed lawn, dried dishes, hung out washing, brought in washing, made dinner, folded washing, helped formatting assignment, printed and collated assignment, and made 11 cups of tea. And thats just the first 24 hours!)
At this rate I hope to be fully paid up by November.
What do you reckon?

Good thing I stopped at the Oaks for a break on the way home from IISAC. (yes, I led Geoffro on another shortcut!!! - will he ever learn :) )
They had Sunday markets, which reminded me I did not have a present yet, and I was able to buy here a couple of nice plants. (She is doing horticulture at tech and Orchids are her passion)

OOPs Gotta Go. Time to make another cuppa!

Weather dependent, I should be there.

Should have the new scope also, so this might affect the viewing, due to cloud. Getting it this week, so hopefully the associated cloud comes during the current waxing moon ...

New scope arrived yesterday and assembled today.
Looking forward to giving her a full workout.
Weather permitting I am a definite maybe.:P
The next week though I'm expecting rain, as you do after a scope purchase, so you can blame me if the weather is cactus???????

So... what happens at this 'Pony Club'? Do you just look at the Horse Head?

GTB_an_Owl
13-10-2010, 12:51 AM
not only that Peter - we get to see it naked eye

occasionally (well most of the time actually) - we get to look at the fridge and the pie oven as well

and when we have run out of beer - we have even been known to look at the moon

why don't you come up and have a look for yourself ?

but then again - just how far south of sydney are you ?
your showing 153 km from here ? (Terrigal that is)

I'm in the northern suburbs of Sydney and my 12" dob is pining for some dark horses! Where are the ponies located exactly?

Actually I can't make it on Nov 6 anyway, but perhaps the following lunation.

Hi Peter,
There is a thread with travel details at the top of this forum in the "sticky" area.

Basically, it is Wisemans Ferry Road Mangrove Mountain.
Between 10 and 30 of us generally meet on a Saturday nearest the new moon each month.

Skies are fairly dark, but it can get a bit dewy at times.
Everyone is welcome.
Watch for a thread each month with the details.
Look forward to seeing you there in the near future.

I can recommend the freezer suits.:)

They are comfy as well as warm....

Mine also doubles as a sleeping bag occasionally after a big night observing.

Allan_L
02-11-2010, 10:56 AM
There is talk that the Freezer Suit will soon be compulsory uniform at the Pony Club. There certainly seems to be more with them then without!
I am very greatful to Mr Owl for supplying mine. Not only warming, but safe, with visibility strips that stop other observers bumping into you in the dark. They are extremely good value for money, and well worth the investment.
[This has been an unsolicited statement. Written and spoken by the warm guy in the nifty night attire]

BTW: back on topic,
Bump!
Pony Club, this coming Saturday, New Moon!
Who is going.
What do the weather gods say?

Re the Pony club i'm non-committal at this stage as last I heard I thjink there might be already something else planned for that night that I'll have to check out.

Yeah Rick, Mr Murphy has struck again. Blame me if you like for the weather ... maybe a few more accessories I bought over the week end contributed to the clouds of late
Re the scope - yeah it took longer than expected, but thanks to the great efforts of Sheldon & Hammond (Celestron distributors in Australia) it didn't cost me anything to ship it there and back nor for the clean, etc.

Well I can see a few teaser stars out there now.
I wonder, Did anyone go up there.

Rick Petrie
07-11-2010, 07:52 AM
Michael, Carly and I went up for a look.
Waited around for about an hour and half. Saw Jupiter and a few stars as a hole opened up but we didn't set up as the clouds looked a bit ominous in the distance. Just as well we didn't as the heavens opened up, but not with stars.:(
We noted that before we go up next time that the field will need to be slashed as the rain of late has promoted much growth. Very uncomfortable under foot.
The frogs were friendly though.
Nobody missed anything.

Allan_L
07-11-2010, 09:32 PM
I was hoping to get to Bretti for a few days myself this week, but I did not put in for leave, and the weather forecast is crappy with occasional pathetic.

If you go anyway, let me know and I may be able to swing a couple of days.
But I have to be back for Dentist on Thursday.

The sky tonight is awful here, looks clear but hazy.
