Gimme a break. It's raining. :) Felt like experimenting a little.

Cleaning out the fridge, found some mouldy cake. Ever wondered what mould looks like at 1:1, 3:1, and 5:1 lifesize? I did. Sounds disgusting at first, but I think at this scale it's beautiful. Kind of like some alien forest.

Attached image is one of the shots at 3:1. The links below are the full set.

Works well. Now a timelapse of that over a couple of days would be nice little experiment :)

The shots themselves aren't that great, I know. Found the 100% crops fascinating. Seeing detail on those little balls.

A very interesting take on macro.

Just remind me not to call around for Tea & Cake....:P

Fascinating.

Are those spherical things at the top of the strands, spores? I wonder what they contain.

Mould is one of the things that makes me dry retch.

H - not positive, but believe those spheres are either the spores or the "container" from which spores are released. This is a closeup of one of the shots (http://www.flickr.com/photos/troypiggo/5066919519/) showing them in about as much detail as I could get.

Must say I found this little science experiment fascinating too.

To those concerned about coming over for tea and cake, don't worry. We only serve guests the week old cake, not the 2 week old cake. :)

Fascinating Troy, it's like an alien lanscape.
