Hi Bartman
I wasn't awake when you posted what have you tried or have they stopped by themselves

Ohhh hiccups.
About 10years ago I had a meal with bell-chillies (raw).
(about 8 on the Richter scale hot....:eyepop::scared:)
After I had the third, a shock-wave run true me.
.
.
3 days later I was bugged:sadeyes: I couldn't drink a glass of water without making a mess, my abdomen was a steel from a forced exercise....
The GP called a prof. at the uni for advice, and give me a sedative.
Stayed home for the 4th. day knocked out from the chill-pill.
It worked, overnight it went away. After that the GP told me he and the prof. had no hope to stop it. It was a gamble...
Good luck,
Mick.
Oh dear, poor Mick, that has to be the worst case I have ever heard of.
Though I'm, pretty sure you must be over it bynow, try this - if done properly it will work every single time.
Pinch your nostrils closed with your fingers (don't let any air get in or out), tip head back slightly and drink three good gulps of water. It'll stop them right in their tracks. Sometimes it can feel weird trapping that bubble as it was about to come out - it comes to a complete halt - strangest feeling!

Hi Suzy,
back then I tried all "anecdotal remedies" nothing worked.
The GP told me in OZ was one dude who had the hiccups for 10 years.
I had it for 4 days and that was a shocker. I think the medical gurus has no idea what is the reason/mechanism for this condition.
Cheers,
Mick.
10 Years!!! :eyepop:How could anyone live with that. Worse how could someone live with someone that does that constantly for that long??!
Perhaps my method works then, for the general hicc-ups.

White vinegar.
Bad case, 3 table spoons into a cup and down it in one go.
Moderate, 2 table spoons.
Mild cases 1 table spoon.
Children 1 tea spoon.
You're throat will contract, your tummy will curl into a tight ball, but it's guaranteed to cure 99% of cases.

Thanks for the advice people!
Suzy, that is the method that has worked for me in the past but not this time!
It eventually stopped about 6 am this morning! After I had a hot shower and a panadine... thought the codine might relax the stomach muscles!
Must try the vinegar trick next time!
Thanx
Bartman
My family use Schweppes Raspberry cordial.
Quarter of a glass straight cordial, works every time.

Yes, I've heard that red cordial works a treat too.

the red cordia works also for belly upsets like gastro. Stops the runs brilliantly. Havn't tried it for the hiccups though. For me i normally bend right over with my head between my ankles and drink a couple of gulps of water upside down. never fails for me, sounds pretty much the same as suzys remedy, but i must try the cordial for the hiccups.

Piece of trivia. The 'modern' spelling first recorded in the same year Capt Cook landed in Botany Bay - anyone able to suggest a connection? Perhaps he was looking for Tokyo but had a hiccough with his navigation!!!
Peter.
Hi Bart, I was told a remedy which works everytime for me.
1. Take a deep breath.
2. While holding your breath, swallow 3 times.
3. While still holding your breath then count slowly to 10
4. Exhale.
Hope that helps for next time.
cheers
