My friend, CyclopsG, thoroughly enjoyed the IceInSpace Forum, and hardly a day went by where he did not read your comments in the forum. He never wrote into it himself, but he did enjoy your discussions. I am sad to say that he died a couple of months ago, but I just wanted you to know how much he enjoyed reading all of your thoughts, and the information you shared.

He has also left behind about 4 telescopes, including a 10 inch Dobsonian. I have no idea where to sell them and then thought of Ice In Space. I cannot give informed descriptions of these telescopes so to sell them on Ice in Space would be difficult. Therefore I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to the next best place to try to sell them. I know he would want the telescopes back in use. He also has many different eye pieces.Your help would be much appreciated

Damn.
I'm sure some IIS member can help. I'm very sorry for the news.

I'm sad to hear your news, Helen. I wonder if someone from these forums could still help. If you were willing to meet up with someone, they might be able to do the descriptions and help you set prices. I see from your friend's profile that he lived in Melbourne. Another option might be to contact the Astronomical Society of Victoria http://www.asv.org.au/ and they might be able to help out.

All the best.

yes the best bet is to contact a local astro society like ASV, there would be some members there that could advise of the best option for you and of what the gear may be worth. Glad he enjoyed his trip around Sol reading IIS and other things. Maybe even donating to a local School with a Astronomy program in memory of him?

Hi Helen, I am sorry for your loss, but I am glad we where able to make his last months a little more enjoyable :)
I hope you are able to sell the scope and eyepieces.:)
The ASV seems a good place to start.

To all of you lovely people who answered my request, and who so very kindly wrote such lovely words (bringing tears to my eyes). I can see why he loved to read your conversations. Thank You.

I will contact the ASV, and I also think your suggestion of someone on IIS who possibly lives near by is another excellent suggestion. So just to see if that is going to be a possibility, CyclopsG lived near Dandenong.

Helen, you might also try the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society - MPAS

I'll look up contact details and add here, but there are members on IIS.

Helen,

this is a very fine thing you have done by informing us of the passing of a fellow member and enthusiast.

I can imagine there wouldn't be many that could do the same.
If any of us passed on, who would let other members know?

Members, is there anyone that knows your password to come in here and inform other members? Would they even know to come in and tell us?

Thank you Helen.

Rest In Peace CyclopsG.

Helen I too am sorry for your loss, you are brave to ask for help in respect to selling those treasured items.

There would not be one among us that would not wish to help, I do hope the items go to a loving home and get the use for which they were intended.

Helen, I live only 11km away and would be more than happy to help identify, photograph, and sell the scopes for you. I am also an ASV member, but IceInSpace has a much more active and effective classifieds facility.

I will send you a PM (personal message) via IceInSpace with my details.

Regards,
Jeff
