My Wife's First Kill!!

Its that season again Varmints and feral pests everywhere. Not one to be caught napping, my wife, Carron, decided she'd get an early start to the season.
No sooner had she set out than this magnificent specimen of Arctotheca Calendula (Capeweed) presented itself. She immediately sprang into action with her "Grandpas Weeder", chambered for a size 36 boot powered by a full load of English breakfast.
Normaly these tough critters will put up a heck of a fight, but with skill and cunning she had it out in one. Weighing-in at just over 7kg, this is a larger example of the species making the kill all the more impressive.
Final tally for the day was just over 85kg.

We sell 'em to unsuspecting teenagers as Skunkweed. We net a packet :D
The implement is called a "Grandpa's Weeder", presumably as its an old design dating back to about 1890ish. Its incredibly efficient on medium to larger weeds as you use a prong to 'spear' the weed and then lever it out. It does't work to well on the smaller stuff, and its best used when the ground is damp, but its good exercise and keeps the deeper rooted stuff away better than Chemicals.

Thanks Peter. I'd love to get one. I'm familiar with the traditional daisy weeder, even the upright ones, but I've never seen one of those before. I've been in horticulture for years and have been a gardener with my grandparents since I was a toddler. I even have some of there old gardening tools still. But I feel like a real novice atm. :lol: Just goes to show that after 30 odd years in the industry, and more before that, there's always something new. I will keep my eye out now. ;)
