I found this pic on cloudy Nights.:eyepop:
At least it is not someone's eye. You can never be to careful when any telescope is put in sunshine.
Newcomers to this hobby should be aware if a suns ray from any telescope that goes in your eye it will destroy your eye in a fraction of a second !!!!

Thanks for showing us Dave, especially the newbies to this hobby.
But I don't understand how it got burnt in those 2 places
Reflection from the primary shouldn't be pointing anywhere near those spots.
It should be at the secondry and straight out through the EP, melting the EP
(but we don't know anyone who has ever done that  :ashamed: )

That would be true if the tube was pointed at the sun. If the light is coming in through the side of the truss it won't reflect onto the secondary.

The two burn marks bothered me until the penny dropped. The scope was sitting there for a while. The reflection has first hit one side of the ring and then some time later hit the other side. Lucky it didn't set it fully alight.
I've seen a telescope where the owner had left the 20" mirror uncovered
during the day and the Kydex on the top-end has been set alight.
Luckily the owner's neighbour spotted the smoke coming from the backyard
and called out, otherwise the whole scope may have been lost in a fire.

Funny you mention that Gary,I once noticed the setting sun skipping onto the mirror edges of a parked 20 ".. Its owner was no where around .. scope got bumped up a little for no dramas .
