What-up chaps?
Apologies for prolonged abscence - I know you've all missed me!
I've had an awfully big adventure. Alas it involved neither Sandra Bullock nor Alien abduction.
I've been in hospital for nearly a month - and I doubleplus HATE being in hospital!!!!!!
Normally 1, maybe 2 things go wrong with you at any given time. In my case (never wanting to do anything by halves-except perhaps, work), the entire Okavango delta disgorged its herds all at once with the result that I ended up in a coma for over 3 weeks with 4 conditions they could diagnose and 3 they couldn't! I never actually caital 'D' died, but I was on LS for nearly a fortnite and several times both my pulse and breathing were too low to register.
Its all still a bit hazy at the 'mo but a soon as I get all the facts I'm going to blog it elsewhere, as there are both some medically interesting facts and some choice words between me and the medical staff while I was in various states of delerium! Apparently I came whithin an arc-second of breaking the record for both sugar in the blood,(102) and Sodium in the brain (217).
Only some weird genetic abnormality I didn't know I had kept me from experiencing the Virgo cluster up-close and personal. Now loads of 'Mr' level doctors from as far away as Brazil want to poke and prod me.
Also, except for a Russian Endochrenologist, whom I only met on my last day, not a soul I met there had the slightest interest in astronomy! You'd think if you were 'that' close to dying, someone would at least pretend an interest!!. Sheeesh!
However, huge respect to the people at Latrobe Valley medical centre CCU, who despite a week of abuse, once I was concious, (did I mention I HATE being in hospital), came up trumps every time!
According to the medicos, I probably should still be in 'spital, but as I can whine and complain at an Olympic level, they decided to let me go home early and if I relapse - well, they'll just do it all again as we have weapons-grade Medical Insurance.
And as most of only know my wife Carron fleetingly - well: what can one say about someone who drops all the rest of everything to sit with you 24/7. Words cannot etc. etc.
The only really crap things to come out of my little episode, thank God, are a case of TypeII Diabetes (but who doesn't by now?) and the Barn Swallows I tried to shoo away from our front door and who **** all over everything, have nested, bred and re-bred in my absence. *******-face toe-rag birds!!!
Hope all of YOU are well and looking forward to some great skies tonight.
TTFN.
Peter

Are you sure they weren't really painted horses?
Anyway, welcome back!

See what happens when you will me to go and fall into a ravine so you can take all my imaging gear?

In all seriousness, that is horrible what you've been through. I had been wondering where you were. I miss your 2 AM postings; they're often full of mirth and joy.

Glad you're still with us, mate.

Keep well!

Thanks guys. You're entirely correct 'H', that kharma business is a bugger!!! :D
Yeah, it was kind of a rough ride, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Thpugh if you happen to be in the area, a Dr. Saha, at Latrobe Health Centre is an incredibly knowledgeable russian amateur astronomer who can also look after your diabetes.
Twofer really!

I don't know about life out there, but it's certainly great to have life here.
What an ordeal to have come through!

All the best, Rob.
