Hi All,

Here are my images of the transit of Europa on the morning of 26th September 2010.

The first one is overexposed. I'm pretty happy with the second one given the seeing. The seeing got worse as the altitude of the planet got lower towards the end.

Thanks for looking.

Take care,
Doug

They look great Doug!
You should try to do up an animation perhaps?

Thanks Rob.

I did an animated GIF but the colour space reduction makes it look terrible. The file size was a bit too large to post.

Unfortunately this was the only night I could image Jupiter in the last couple of weeks due to cloud and rain :(

They look very nicely processed Doug, but unfortunately the seeing let you down. I hope you get better seeing soon.

A nice record of the transit Doug, it is a shame the seeing was not better but I suppose we all have to deal with what get's dished up weather wise.

A good effort.

Thanks John but there is something missing in my processing that I used to do when I was last into imaging Jupiter in 2007. I'm sure I'll figure it out soon.

I'm also very keen to find some free software that does deconvolution. Most people seem to be doing deconvolution now but the best I have is the unsharp mask in the GIMP.

Thanks Trevor. I hope the clouds clear and the seeing improves before the opposition is over!

Hi Doug
Really nice record of a transit.
IRIS is free and has a range of really good deconvolution algorithms - not part of the GUI though, you have to use the command line interface. Bit of a learning curve, but there is a very good tutorial on the web and it's really worth the effort.
regards Ray

Hi Ray,

Thank you very much for the tip. I personally love command line stuff so IRIS sounds ideal!

Take care,
Doug
