Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter last night in variable but generally good seeing over a 2hr 40min sessions, at times it threatened to be very good.
At least there was no cloud.

Have attached 3 RGB's and 4 807nm IR images.
Thanks for looking.

Regards
Trevor

Trevor, really lovely with nice detail & looks well prepared and attention to detail. Gives us beginners such a high goal to head for.

Thanks for sharing
Darrin...

Seriously good images Trev. I think the new mirror will give you that little extra detail. When do you expect the mirror to be finished?

The complexity of the NEB swirls in the second RGB image is of particular note. Another candidate for the best opposition of 2010 photo album!

Thanks very much John, I think it would be fair comment to say that we have all had quite unusual weather conditions this year. Reckon that makes the good nights just so much more satisfying.

Thanks very much Darrin for your most generous comments. We are fortunate in this country to have some of the best planetary photographers in the world, they set the standard that the rest of us strive for.

Thanks very much David, I have very high expectations of my new scope. I designed it using the ray trace program Newt that Bird introduced me to. Recently my 1/30th wavelength Antares secondary arrived and currently Gary Mitchell in Sydney is working on a 2 piece fully baffled aluminium tube. Mark Suchting has ordered the blank for my primary. I would hope to have it all together for next years Saturn season but the timing of it all is by far a secondary consideration to the quality of the finished primary.

Thanks very much Peter, the detail in the NEB, for me, was also the standout feature. With such detail there is always the temptation to overcook the sharpening, resulting in very sharp and harsh edges. I really made a concerted attempt to keep the edges of those features soft, hope thats how it also appears to others.

Yep your seeing was just that bit better than mine. Mine started off really good but by the time I was taking my first RGB run it had degraded just that little bit. Personally I think the seeing of the 27 was better for me. That NEB action is interesting because there are three ovals converging on each other and the pale stream of gas is being pulled toward each just like a chain going through a series of cogs.

Up here initially, when I setup, the live feed looked ok, a bit of movement interspersed with moments of quite good seeing, Jup was at 47 degrees alt.

About mid session those moments of good seeing were lasting for several seconds at a time, overall quite nice but it dropped off a bit again about midnight. That was a bit strange as by then Jup had reached 60 degrees alt.

I suppose this pretty amazing action in the NEB is sort of consolation for the SEB being so inactive, certainly looks great.

Thanks very much for your comment Doug, with an ounce of luck with the weather, I hope to do better while Jups apparent dia still is around 49 arc sec's.

Thanks very much Troy.

Thanks very much Chris, Jup is still over 49 arc sec's. Hope the cloud clears for you while Jup is at close to max apparent dia.

Thanks very much Mark, always looking for ways to improve my work.
