Hi There
Well i woke up this morning to discover i had been robbed!
And the jerks decided Astro Gear was there target?? What the??.
But luckily nothing of large value EG cameras scopes and mounts were taken, but in a sense worse stuff than that was stolen because they took things that are difficult to replace like, Autoguider, Handcontroller for mount, dew controllers, cables, MY DEEP CYCLE BATTERY??? , focuser controllers and my Howie Glatter!!!! along with eyepieces and pretty much everything that is small and integral to my set-up besides the big stuff.
Take my DVD player and TV i don't care but not my Astro stuff, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
This stuff will be pointless to them and just plain worth nothing.
I hate these people

Mate that sucks!! :mad2:
Make sure you check with the local cash convertors and hock shops to see if anyone tries to cash them in; they'll be on CCTV.
Did you report to the cops?

Shane,
Far out, first Mike gets his car stolen, and, now your astro gear. : (
So sorry to hear about that. Scum of the earth!
H
Really sorry to hear that Shane.:mad2:
Do you think they knew what they were taking, or did they just target what looked valuable?
Hope they get their come-uppance!

No kidding, but I had a dream about that last night, someone stealing my gear, little bit by little bit.
Sorry to hear about your loss, but hopefully, being specialist gear, you may get it back.

Hi Shane,
That is awful, wondering if you can list the gear stolen on here and I will keep an eye out for any private sales mentioning your gear.
Pick up the Quokka as well
I hope you get your gear back.

Thanks everyone,
All day i kept adding to the list of devastation and my heart sank just that little bit more as i kept trying to remember what i had in the three Pelican cases taken.
Here's the breakdown of my saddness to possibly look out for:(
Hyper Mallincam Plus- Biggest saddness of all
Starshoot autoguider
Howie Glatter 2'' barlowed Collimator and Tublug
all my eyepieces including "Bob" the big William Optics 28mm 82degree (too many to mention)
Kendrick Dew heater and two bands
Both moonlite and Skywatcher Focuser controllers
Binoviewers
All leads and cables
PC remote
Deep cycle battery
Synscan V3 controller rendering mount inert:(
Im sure i'll add to the list when my head clears.
Thanks again everyone for your kind thoughts it made me smile in an otherwise dreadful day.
Kind Regards
Shane

Nightmare Shane - hope it all works out for you.
The stuff you got knicked isn't the kind of gear that'll go down well at Cash Converters either! That said, thieves are ferkin' idiots - pure and simple so Cashie's might be the first stop for the cops!?
All the best mate - best wishes.
Doug
Gosh Shane, what a hassle! That's really terrible news, very sorry to hear that. I'm with you, take whatever but don't touch my astro gear and I wouldn't have half the stuff you have.

I don't mean to add to your worries Shane, but ask your neighbors to keep an eye on the house for the next week or so - sometimes the theives will return during the day with a truck having already seen what's in the house.
I sometimes think about buying a couple of sacrificial pelican type cases and have them locked with a couple of bricks inside - then the robber couldn't carry too much good stuff away.

I hope that you are able to recover your equipment Shane.

Real sorry to hear this Shane. Unfortunately, some crims aren't stupid and realise that astro equipment is mighty expensive and will attempt to make a quick buck off it. Anyone who steals from innocent people, whom have never done anything to harm the culprit, is just not human I'm afraid. Just a sick, demented loser. That's what I can't stand about this, an innocent person victimised for no reason. If anyone stole from me, freaking look out..... I won't be nice....
Life will pay them back, don't you worry about that.

Gee Shane that sucks. Hope you put it behind you quickly and get back on your feet. It's devastating but not much you can do about it now. I assume your gear was insured. On a brighter note the cash converter tip is a good one. It's not the kind of gear that's easy to sell either. It's so specialised. Keep an eye out for second hand stuff in your local astro community buyers and online. The stuff is bound to come back around for sale if they want to flog it. Spread the word out to your mates about the gear and you might get some leads, then you'll find them and hammer them hard. Good luck with it all.

I am sorry for your loss Shane :(
To me it looks like it is a deliberate steal of astro imaging gear not just random:question:

Shane, sorry to hear about that. Truly stinks big time :mad2: It's not only that your gear was stolen but the feeling that someone has no regard for one's property that has been worked hard for. I've been the victim of a few thefts and what bugs me is that as an honest citizen, I have to make my home into a fortress to keep these low lifes out  Hope justice eventually catches up with them.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts, you are all wonderful people.
I don't think it was deliberate, i usually place my Pelican cases somewhere away from view in my home but i was tired Wednesday evening and left them on the dining room table, i think they just looked valuable and easy to grab.
If they were on foot that DC battery would have given the buggers a work out that's for sure, i can barely lift it to my car without having a hernia:lol:
Still waiting on confirmation of police report for insurance claim, so fingers crossed there.
The scariest part is they were in my house and i feel violated along with the loss of my very first eyepiece which i had when i was only 10, i saved for ages to go in and buy it from York optical in Perth when they were on Murray Street, that can't be replaced .
Oh well it's only stuff, least i have my loved ones and my puppy:)
Kind Regards
Shane

That really sucks Shane, there are some right idiots in this world. Makes a good case for having a cuddley pittbull around the place, kept just hungry enough to tear off a limb or two for lunch. What can could do with the stuff ??? Hope you get it back or at least the insurance people pay up.

Agree 100%.
SHMBO had the same experience. Locked up her new car in the carport, went inside and locked the door, left her handbag in the kitchen, and went upstairs to bed.
She came down the next morning, the door had been forced, handbag and car gone.
The police found the car a couple of weeks later and told her to go and collect it - off the street where it had been left - before it was stolen again. All that was missing was the stereo - just an ordinary Hyundai one - and it had a bit of panel damage. There was rubbish and other stolen stuff like wallets left inside.
Police were not interested.

Scarey alright. 4 weeks ago there was an attempted break in right next door to me at midnight; whilst the neighbours were still awake and at the computer a room away from where they heard them try to breach the window!
2 nights later the same occured directly across the road at midnight. To our surprise that night the police knocked on our front door and asked us to stay inside as they had the K-9 unit with them and were about to release the dogs to search for the burglars.
They mentioned that the few nights before 2 cars were stolen from the street behind us; using the owners keys!
I can tell you I didnt sleep at all for a few nights after that.
Our street area and driveways are well lit and it left the neighbours and ourselves quite shocked of how brazen these robbers were. :mad2:
Even though some say alarms are useless; it is the deterrent factor that restricts most robbers from staying around too long or makes them leave straight away.
Maybe check out getting an alarm system Shane you can 'stay arm' at night for the doors and windows.
Hope the insurers accept your claim Shane :(

Unfortunately its almost 7 out of 10 cases from someone who knows you very well. People who know where you are, where you keep your things, what you have etc.
My neighbor was robbed in the middle of the day from next door neighbor 16 years old kid. The sad thing is that kid's father has security alarm business.
Having a good dog helps a lot. My dog is not big but barks if anyone gets even close to our fence.
Hope you get your things back or you get your insurance.

Does it help that many of us have published our latitude and longitude and a quick search with google earth pinpoints our house. I have tried to remove the entry, but not sure how? Furthermore, many of us list our equipment.

Just change them to another location in the user CP or just change them to 0's. Noticed that you cant remove them.

Agreed. I removed my equipment list a while ago. Not that I have much. Following your post I tried putting a members location - in degrees, minutes and seconds - into Google Maps and it did identify a specific house. However if I remove the seconds it is out by half a suburb. In your profile you can select whether or not others can see the seconds in your location. It is probably a good idea to hide the seconds.
