Hi, I have been reading various threads for a while and decided to bite the bullet and register. I am very new to astronomy so excuse my ignorance if I blurt out with something that makes no sense.

I still have my first Telescope that I was given for Christmas back in the 60's, a Tasco 66te. It still resides in its original box complete with all the original manuals and reference material. To my uneducated eye it actually produces a nice little image (Saturn & Jupiter complete with moons) however the original mount is absolute crap as it is almost impossible to adjust particularly at high magnification.

My younger son (12) has a mild interest in astronomy but the old setup proves to frustrating and interest is lost to quickly. So I am now on the hunt for something a little more user friendly.

Hi Chris. welcome to the forum. You will get alot of great advice and help here as you need it. Makes no diff at what level you want to take your Astronomy, all that matters is that you have joined a group of people who all enjoy the hobby and love to share thier findings with others.

I am am fairly new to this hobby also with only about a year of owning a telescope.

Nice to have you onboard.

Regards
Martin

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

A 8" dob eric, well thanks for the suggestion :) but I am leaning towards a Skywatcher 150 x 1000P reflector on an EQ5 mount. But I will start another thread to discuss the pros and cons.

Hi Chris and welcome to IIS

As you are in Sydney it would be worthwhile dropping in to the meetings of some of the astro clubs up there. They are also a wealth of info.

Cheers

Thanks Ric, I will try and track down Ken at SNAG and see if I can join them at a viewing night because they are nearby to me.
