In the features section of the latest edition of Nature (vol 476 #7315)...

That is absolutely crazy and just shows you what some people will do in order to compete with colleagues.

Science gone mad

No...
Just people out of self-control ;)

Well thats science and I don't think it is anything new. In science you compete for jobs and you compete for money. Thats just the way it is and some people will stop at nothing to get ahead!

That's what I mean:)

True, it's not new and it has happened before, but you don't hear of it often.

He is doomed as that sort of behaviour will make him unemployable anywhere!
This is more than one rung below knowingly rigging results.

Pretty right there, Bert:)

Only one other rung to stick his feet on before he touches ground...and that is physically harming others in order to get his way.

Of course, damaging your rivals with politics is perfectly acceptable ;)

Fraud is another example of the less than ethical efforts of some scientists.

Still ... I guess its more ethical to be burnt at the stake than have your evidence destroyed.

The expectation is that a scientist is an intelligent and rational person.
It is remarkable how an intelligent person's desires can so muddle their rational thinking that they believe their actions are justifiable. Characteristically, in their confused state, they somehow expect that they will not be caught out!

Maybe he wasn't as intelligent as he thought:):P

Or, he was intelligent.. so much that he thought he is the most intelligent person in the world, so he could not possibly be caught.
Combine this with low ethical standards.... and you have just a petty criminal..

That's exactly what he is...a petty criminal.
