"Holy Relics, Batman!!"

I only ever had a toy one - had a big circular saw at the front and shot small pellets out of the Rocket tubes!

$US150K.

How long before the $AU gets far enough past the $US to make it affordable?

That's awesome Doug and a choice of 350 or 460 cubes too.

Like Eric, I have the Corgi model sitting in a glass cabinet next to my Thunderbirds collection and original 007 Aston Martin with rotating number plates and ejector seat.

Cheers

"Atomic turbines up to speed!".... How fabulous are these? LOL! I want one!

If you had one of these parked at your local pub along side a Bugatti Veyron, I reckon people would gravitate to it way before they did the Veyron.

I was always under the impression that the original Batmobile, as it appeared in the cheesy 60's series, was either based on an Australian car or at least built by an Australian. I think that I'm pretty wrong here, as the original was based on the Lincoln Furura (concept car), as is pretty obvious:

Does it come with atomic batteries as standard, or are they optional?

I had all of those too! Wish I'd kept them - could sell them to fund the Batmobile!

Didn't have that one Eric

I do have a corgi model of the John Player Special F1 car. It was a prototype that had six wheels.

From memory the real car was a bit of a slug around the track.

I loved this car. I had models of it all over my room as a kid. The JPS P34 Tyrell six-wheeler was far more than a prototype, and was actually pretty good around the track. :P Scheckter and Depailler came first and second in the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix in the thing. The idea behind the six wheels was that the front wheels could be made smaller - 10 inches. This led to lower frontal drag and apparently it also resulted in higher downforce. This was all well and good, but the main problem was that the tyre manufacturers didn't want to develop the small tyre any further that they did - which was essentially just past prototype stage. This caused unreliability and eventually the heaver front end killed tyres too quickly.

I found out through another forum just recently that this Batmobile is still in existance and is owned by a couple of guys up here in QLD. Apparently they ocassionally rent it out for events, although I'd imagine you'd only want to do that for a laugh. :)

Should this thread be part of 'you know your old when'.
