Hi all. Slowly getting a handle on this RGB business. Bundaberg QLD. has gone from being one of the worst spots for planet imaging, to one of the best this apparition.

C11/DMK working at F30.

30FPS 750 stacked on each channel.

That's a ripper, John. Nicely detailed and processed.

Thanks Mike, however apparently I'm not aligning these correctly so there is room for improvement! I'm using Astraimage MAX 2.5 (free edition) & quite frankly can't see what there is to align on! I can't see any detail out of alignment no matter how hard I look - Probably a case of staring me right in the face! :screwy:

I've been a one shot colour guy for my planet imaging life:)

AstraImage is terrible for trying to align the colour channels.

If you can, get photoshop or similar - the easiest way I've found to see if the channels are out of alignment is to switch/blink between the greyscale colour layers (R|G|B) in photoshop.
ie: compare red to green, blink back and forth, then compare blue to green, blink back and forth.

Thanks for the tip Mike, I have PS but I don't like using it. I guess I'll have to learn to like it, even if it is just for aligning with lol.

Nice work John. Align in astra image with the white ovals. magnify the region and then do large adjustments up and down and left and right until you are satisfied that you are in the correct position. When the channels are out of position the ovals will display a faint red or blue tinge one side of each other. It is hard to spot but you can do see it with practice.

Thanks Paul. When I was aligning in Astraimage, I certainly didn't see what you describe on the ovals, so therefore they must be pretty close to not worry about further then. That's a relief!

great job. Not about to comment, don't know how to do RGB yet but nice detail.

Thats a beauty John, I concur with Paul re Astra Image. I magnify the image by 3 or 4x and look at the white ovals, any misalignment is obvious at that sort of magnification. If there are no white ovals the same process also works well with festoons or other such features in the NEB.

Cheers

Splendid detail your getting, how do you find focus between filters with Astronomik, I found mine not par focal with blue needing most adjustment but even my Astrodons are not perfect but better.

John.

Many thanks guys, for your comments.

Mark, I'm using just the basic non goto black version of the EQ6. All it has to do is track in this game:)

Thanks for the verification of what Paul said, Trevor.

John, initially I thought my set of Astronomik Type II were not parfocal, but being a newbie & all - That's not true. It was the seeing (bad) that made me arrive at this conclusion. They are *very close* to parfocal in good seeing. I think the B would need a bit of a tweek, if you're pedantic like me with focus;)

That's a very nice image John!
Memory's not that great these days, but I think it's the best I have seen from you this time round, and at the upper end of images this apparition.

Thanks Michael!

I think my latest DBK image leaves this one cold Clayton. It's ok for my second run in the RGB stakes though.

Here's a reprocess. Much better I reckon.

Looks good John. You must have got the alignment right as it is much sharper all the way out to the edges.

Yes, it took some time to work out what in heck I was supposed to be looking for lol! But I worked it out in the end:lol:

Now that I've worked the bugs out, it's cloudy & sprinkling rain! Bless you weather gods!!:bashcomp::juggle::)

Thanks mate:thumbsup:

Beautiful image John.

It's just so detailed. I actually prefer the first one to the reprocess.

What barlow did you use for this?

Take care,
Doug

G'day Doug, & thanks. I used a 3X barlow in this instance.

Cheers mate.

Lovely finer detail there John!

How are you finding Astraimage compared to Registax?

Cheers,
Darrin...

Hi again Darrin, & thanks! Uuummm - I only use Astraimage for doing this RGB aligning after using Registax. Oh, plus I might use it for a bit of decovolution if I feel so inclined just before the alignment.

So, the process goes like this: Once you've done each RGB AVI's in Registax, you obviously end up with 3 B/W final images. I then crop all 3 centrally in an editing proggy. From there into Astraimage. Then load & change all 3 mono images into greyscale pics. Do a wee bit of deconvolution, sharpening, gamma lowering (whatever they need blah blah) & then align 'em. Then it's back into your editing program for any final touchups.
