Hello all, I'm a new user. I use to do celestial maps for beginners as well as detailed maps for my articles that I write in italian language. Most of my maps are in english, and I would like to show you one of my last map, created for a description of the Carina-Centaurus region of Milky Way. The map is available here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Carenadetail_charta.png and has very high resolution (3,500 × 2,550 pixels, file size: 1.57 MB).

On this map are plotted stars up to 9.0 magnitude, most of the ionized (H II) regions and planetary nebulae (in green) and many open clusters and star associations (in yellow). Main OB associations and dark clouds are also included. You can download it following the link to the full resolution just below the map and saving it.

I like to have some suggestions or feedbacks, hoping that this map could be a small help for you. The map has a free license.

Hi Roberto, welcome to IIS:):)

That's a brilliant bit of work there!!!!. One thing I would do...to distinguish between the PN's and HII regions, I would make them different colours.

Thank you! Yes I have some other maps, but this is the first one with a large field. I drew it using a new technique. Some examples of other works that I done (with different techniques) are small detailed map for specific H II regions:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sh2-310map.png (Sh2-310 in Canis Major)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SeagullNebulaMap.png (Seagull Nebula)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ConeMolecularCloudMap.png (Cone-Rosette region)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Oriondetail_charta.png (Orion Belt and Sword)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CasOB2map.png (Cassiopeia OB2, near Messier 52 - out of view for most australians)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:LMC_charta.png (Large Magellanic Cloud just with most prominent objects)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RhoOphMap.png (Rho Ophiuchi Cloud)

I have in mind to draw others new large field maps using the same new technique, I will post here when they are ready.

The colour of planetary nebulae: I think it's not a bad idea; probably a good colour will be purple. What do you think? Any suggestion?
